Chevrolet and Isaac Mizrahi give sneak peek of Malibu clothing

GM has hired Isaac Mizrahi to design a clothing collection inspired by the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The designer gives a sneak peek into the collection to be unveiled this week.

Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi is known for his uniquely everyday women's clothing designs made to fit "women of substance and style." General Motors has commissioned the designer to take inspiration from the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and create a clothing line for the LivingSocial Shop.

During his search for inspiration, Mizrahi was featured in a handful of television and Web commercials as he looked for women he believed exemplified the Chevy Malibu lifestyle. Talking to them, touring their homes, and spending a day out to do what they enjoy doing, he gained inspiration for the six-piece "capsule collection" he's created.

The designs will be officially unveiled on Tuesday as some of the first physical items to be offered in the new LIvingSocial Shop online. The collection is inspired by the "ice-blue ambient lighting" of the Malibu as well as the "crisp lines" and Mizrahi's impression that Malibu women prefer "smart, stylish things." A blouse, skinny jean, leather jacket, diving moccasin, tote back, and oversized boyfriend watch round out the new collection.

"The 2013 Malibu is a beautifully designed car," said Mizrahi. "Each piece of my capsule collection was inspired by the features of the car, from the leather seats that feel like they are hugging you, to the ice-blue interior lighting."

The collection was shown in an unveiling last week by Chevrolet at an event in Detroit where models showcased the new designs and Mizrahi explained their inspiration. The items are now viewable on the Malibu Collection website ( where videos of each of the women the designer met with around the country as he searched for inspiration are also shown.

The items in the collection are being sold in limited quantities and will range in price from $73 (jeans) to $298 (leather jacket) on a first-come, first-served basis.

"The collection captures the personality of the new Malibu owner: that smart, stylish woman who likes nice things, but is savvy about her purchases," said Mizrahi. "Each piece is its own little reward for a woman that lives a smart and stylish life; together, as a collection, they make one great look."
