Fireworks accompany the first Model Y from Giga Berlin as it leaves the gigafactory and drives off to home under the applauds of the bystanders.

March 22, 2022 was the delivery day in the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg.

Tesla boss Elon Musk personally handed over the first 30 Model Y produced in the "Giga Berlin" to their new owners. They were given a detailed tour of the factory beforehand, they could request a song for the handover of "their" car and then celebrate the opening with invited guests. Incidentally, only the top model Model Y Performance will be built in Grünheide at the start.

After Tesla handed over the first cars from its Grünheide factory to customers on Tuesday, the company now wants to expand its plant further. There is still a long way to go before mass production.

The 30 "Model Y" delivered on Tuesday had more symbolic value. In order to be able to attack the European electric car market properly, Tesla must start mass production at the Grünheide plant as quickly as possible. As early as October last year, Elon Musk described this as a real challenge. "Starting production isn't that important. Mass production is the hard part. It's an awful lot of work and we need a lot of talented, hard-working people to pull it off. It's super difficult. I can't stress that enough," he explained Musk back then.
