Three Reasons Jeep Lovers Will Want the 2020 Wrangler EcoDiesel

The first available 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesels should start being delivered soon. There are key ways that the EcoDiesel will improve the Jeep experience.

Jeep has suggested that the first 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesels will be available by the end of 2019, so with three weeks left in the year, many are anxiously awaiting the vehicle’s arrival. Everyone loves getting a new ride but some Jeep aficionados have been looking forward to a diesel Wrangler for decades.

2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel Will Have Better Fuel Economy

One of the key reasons that Jeep lovers have wanted a Wrangler with an EcoDiesel is for the improved fuel economy. Jeep hasn’t released the new numbers yet, but they assure us that it will get the best fuel economy of any Wrangler. Some experts estimate that it could improve the miles per gallon as much as thirty per cent. That could be huge for people who want improved range as well. The EcoDiesel will give owners the opportunity to go further off the grid and be gone longer between fill-ups than any other Wrangler.

This will be the first time that a Jeep Wrangler will be offered with a diesel in North America. Jeep is also making the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel available for all Jeep Wrangler four-door models. It will not be available for the two-door versions. I have previously reported that the incredibly popular 2020 Jeep Gladiator will also be offered with an EcoDiesel eventually.

2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel Will Have Greater Capability

Wrangler owners love to go off-roading and they love to bring all sorts of toys with them. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel will give them a better opportunity to do that.

The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine will get 260 horsepower and kick out an astounding 442 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is paired with a new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. The new powertrain combination is expected to offer great handling for off-roading and towing. Coupled with the better fuel economy and the greater driving range, Jeep drivers will be able to go further, travel into tougher terrain and take more things with them.

In talking about the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel, the head of the Jeep Brand, Jim Morrison, said “I recently drove the new Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel on the Rubicon Trail and can unquestionably attest to its incredible off-road capability. Combining that unmatched off-road capability with the vehicle’s fun-to-drive on-road performance, best-ever Wrangler fuel economy and incredible driving range underwrite the fact that our customers knew exactly what they were asking for.”

The Third-Generation EcoDiesel Will be Quieter than Other Diesels

The all-new engine used in the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel is engineered to be quieter, with less vibration and harshness than previous versions. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 includes several design changes to improve fuel economy and performance.

According to Jeep, the compression ratio has been optimized to 16.0:1 from 16.5:1 to improve fuel economy and reduce engine noise. A new-generation water-cooled turbocharger and low-friction bearing increases efficiency and responsiveness.

The new design also includes changes to the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. The direct injection fuel nozzles were also revamped. Lightweight aluminum alloy pistons were also redesigned. The result is improved fuel economy and a quieter diesel engine that dedicated Jeep owners should appreciate.

If the new 2020 Jeep EcoDiesel is received as well as the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will have another hit on its hands.
