The newest Hellcat from Hot Wheels has reached stores, with the blue Dodge Charger SRT with the Mopar racing livery joining the earlier red and white sedans and the trio of Hellcat Challengers in the Mattel 1/64th scale lineup.

While driving most 7-passenger SUVs usually means that you can’t have a much fun while behind the wheel, the 2016 Dodge Durango R/T is proof that a big SUV with three rows of seating can be fun - and you can have that combination of passenger space and driving excitement for under $50k.

The AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals were held this past weekend and for the 3rd race in a row, the final round was a duel of Dodge Charger funny cars from Don Schumacher Racing, with Matt Hagan beating teammate Ron Capps – giving Hagan his 4th win of the season, DSR its 13th race of the season and nearly guaranteeing another funny car championship in 2016.

FCA has announced that the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger for the 2017 model years have received the NHTSA’s 5-star overall safety rating – the highest score available – essentially making the most powerful American models among the safest as well.

This past weekend in Wisconsin, the Plum Crazy Purple Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat owned and driven by Steve Pryce set a new quarter mile record for the factory-supercharged sedan, stopping the times at 9.58 with a trap speed of 142.94 miles per hour – and we have the details on this monster Mopar.

After discussing the pending availability of the 2017 Dodge Challenger T/A last week, we got some questions on the ordering status of the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona and in speaking with my same dealership contacts, I was surprised to find that the newest Daytona is on sale now – and it has been for some time.

The 2017 Dodge Challenger and 2017 Dodge Charger in SRT Hellcat trim will get the longest list of new features among all of the muscle car configurations, and for those prospective buyers holding off for the 2017 model year, you can expect to see your car sometime during the 4th quarter – with production of the 2017 model year Challenger and Charger slated to begin next month.

The Dodge Durango SRT shown above is a rendering posted by an artist on Allpar.com, but in speaking with a handful of FCA insiders, it is my understanding that the newest Dodge SUV will look a great deal like this – and it is going to be the high performance Durango that Mopar fans have been demanding for years.

The excitement over the 2017 Dodge Challenger T/A and the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona caused everyone to look over the fact that FCA has promised one more special edition muscle car this fall – but what will it be?

One of my favorite moments in the history of cars is the muscle car wars in the mid 60's and early 70's. Detroit's assembly lines were pumping out high horsepower cars that were marketed towards the youth of America (Baby Boomers). The race was on to see who could be the fastest.

While lots of vehicles turned in impressive times at Car & Driver’s Lightning Lap 10, the Dodge Viper ACR turned in the quickest time among production cars in this year’s field.

Yesterday we reported that the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat had turned the quickest lap among 4-door cars in their years Car & Driver Lightning Lap shootout and after digging deeper into the results of one of the most rigorous track tests in the industry, I found that the Tesla Model S P85D was also in the competition – and it didn’t do very well at all.

After all of the talk about the All-Wheel Drive Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat in the past two weeks, I polled the folks on the large Hellcat Group and asked if they would have gotten an AWD Hellcat when they purchased their cars, and the results were pretty evenly split between the “yes” and “no” camps.

We already learned what colors the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger will wear when the 2017 model year vehicles arrive, but today FCA offered up a few cool graphics showing all of the available colors on the silhouette of each Mopar muscle car.

After a bunch of outlets misread or simply disregarded the information on the upcoming Dodge Challenger all-wheel drive and American Drag Racing models, it was incorrectly reported that the Challenger street legal drag racing package would have all-wheel drive, but that is incorrect – as has been clarified by the folks at Automotive News.

FCA featured an all-wheel drive Dodge Challenger Concept called the GT AWD last year at the SEMA Show and according to the crew at Automotive News, that all-wheel drive muscle car will become a production reality starting later this year – although it is unclear which engine will be tucked under the hood.

In addition to offering up the bulk of the information on the 2017 Dodge Charger and 2017 Dodge Challenger in their high performance SRT Hellcat forms, FCA also posted a pair of videos showing the two 707 horsepower muscle cars tolling around the handling track at the Chelsea Proving Grounds – along with giving us the best look yet at the new 5Deep Hellcat wheels.
