Dodge

Dodge currently personifies the spirit that made the brand so popular back in the 1960s and 1970s with an aggressive design and powerful drivetrains that also offer excellent fuel economy. Dodge is routinely the bestselling brand within the Chrysler Group. This page provides the latest Dodge news, photos, reviews and breaking stories about Dodge cars.

The Chrysler Group had suspended production of the Dodge Viper a few months back when inventory levels were reaching extremely high levels, but the new pricing schedule has improved sales enough that the company will begin production of the 2015 Viper in November – although only the less expensive models will be built at first.

Last week, I had a chance to travel to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to test the incredible 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and while my drive impressions for the world’s most powerful, the world’s quickest and the world’s fastest 4-door sedan will be available later this week – today I bring you a quick video of the testing at the race track.

The Dodge Challenger T/A Concept will make its grand debut at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas next month, but we got a chance to check it out a bit early at the Chrysler Headquarters which means that you won’t have to wait until SEMA to find out what makes this Challenger Concept unique from the rest of the 2015 models.

The Chrysler Group held a small press event this morning to show off some of the vehicles headed to the 2014 SEMA Show and among the crowd was the Dodge Viper ACR Concept – a show car that could and should become the next great American supercar.

The 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat packs 707 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2L Hemi and while that makes this brawny Mopar sedan the quickest and most powerful 4-door car in the world, it also makes for one wicked burnout machine – which the SRT team was kind enough to show us at the recent Charger media launch.

While the vast majority of the attention surrounding the 2015 Dodge Charger has focused on the new 707hp SRT Hellcat models, the new Charger Scat Pack will likely be a far more popular option for those folks looking to have a sport sedan that will crush competition like the Chevrolet SS while carrying a starting price below $40,000.

The 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat pricing has been announced and starting at just $63,995 including the $1,700 gas guzzler tax, the supercharged 4-door muscle car is substantially less expensive than any of the other cars on the list of the world’s most powerful sedans… while also being the most powerful car on that list.

Among the many high performance cars being unveiled at next month’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas will be the new Dodge Viper ACR Concept and while we don’t know anything about this new Viper ACR - it could lead to one of the best performing production cars in the world.

The Chrysler Group has rolled out their first group of teaser images ahead of the 2014 SEMA Show and among those images is the new Dodge Challenger TA Concept - a concept that could lead to the next performance trimline for the brawny Mopar muscle car.

The pricing is available for the 2015 Dodge Challenger, the 2015 Ford Mustang and the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro and once again, the brawny Mopar muscle car is the least expensive option for those looking to get into a V8 powered American muscle car for as little cash as possible.

Though it is debatable which is the better performance car, one fact is indisputable: the new all wheel drive Tesla Model S P85D is quicker than every four-door sedan in the world, including the Torque News favorite Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

Elon Musk has introduced his new Tesla P85D with dual motors, all wheel drive and the most impressive performance specifications in the electric vehicle segment, but while the Elon’s big surprise most certainly rocks the EV world – the high powered Model S still falls short of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat while costing almost twice as much.

The Chrysler Group has announced a recall of select 2013 and 2014 SRT/Dodge Viper supercars over a concern that the driver’s airbag system may not be calibrated correctly and should there be an accident, this problem could lead to the airbag system not working as it should and that increases the likelihood of an injury.

When the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was introduced with a 707 horsepower supercharged Hemi mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission, it was widely believed that sales of the self-shifting model would eclipse the manual transmission, but during the first phase of ordering, the proper manual transmission is outselling the high tech automatic.

File this story under “U” for Unbelievable as less than an hour after I published my piece about the Dodge Viper winning the driver and team championship for the 2014 IMSA United SportsCar Championship series – the Chrysler Group has announced that they will discontinue the factory backed Viper racing program immediately.

The Dodge Viper and the Chevrolet Corvette went head to head this past weekend to decide the champion for the 2014 IMSA United SportsCar Championship in the GTLM class and when the 10 hour race at Road Atlanta came to an end – Team Viper had claimed their 6th podium spot in the last 7 races to win both the team and driver’s title.

Even though the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray had a slow month while both the Porsche brand and the Dodge Viper had strong months, the GM sports car still outsold its closest competitors in the US market by a massive margin – even if you combine the sales numbers of the Porsche cars and the Viper.

I recently had a chance to attend an in-depth walk-through of the new Hellcat Hemi with SRT drivetrain engineer Chris Cowland and I learned that the true secret to the new Challenger and Charger making 707 horsepower safely all comes down to cooling – with unique features throughout the engine bay working together to keep the most powerful American production motor ever running as cool as possible.

Last month we reported that the 2015 Dodge Viper would get a big price decrease that would also impact 2014 models sitting on dealership lots around the country and not surprisingly, the new lower prices have led to a spike in Viper sales – allowing the Mopar supercar to have its best sales month since being introduced for the 2013 model year.

The Dodge Challenger did something last month that it hasn’t done any time in recent history, beating the Ford Mustang in monthly sales – but the Chevrolet Camaro continued its charge for a 5th straight muscle car sales title by comfortably crushing both the Challenger and Mustang.

When the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat made its grand debut in August, it was announced that it had a top speed of 204mph and a stock-tire quarter mile time of 11 second flat, but a new video clip from the automaker reveals that when fitted drag radial tires, the world’s most powerful sedan can run the quarter mile in just 10.7 seconds while moving out from 0-60 in just 2.9 seconds.

This past weekend saw the auction of 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat #1 and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick made the winning bid of $825k, which a charitable organization matched to raise the total charitable contribution from the Hellcat sale to $1.65 million – more than has been contributed by any other single car in Barrett Jackson history.

While the 2015 Dodge Challenger is still a little bigger and a little heavier than the competition, the 2015 models improved in every way except for one – the fact that there is still no manual transmission option with the base model V6 and that is one feature that could further help bolster Challenger sales.

The Chrysler Group announced this morning that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with 707 horsepower offers a very impressive 22 miles per gallon on the highway, making it far more efficient than the Camaro ZL1 and a collection of other ultra high performance vehicles – although that likely doesn’t matter to anyone who will buy one.

We already knew from the first published dyno videos that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat seemingly makes more than 707 horsepower and a new report suggests that the Hellcat Hemi is capable of making as much as 825 horsepower, but that same report also suggests that Chrysler is having problems getting the Hellcat Hemi to pass some emission tests.
