By Patrick Rall on
The North American Car and Truck of the Year jury has announced the finalists for the 2015 awards with the 2015 Ford Mustang and 2015 Ford F150 leading the charge for the Motor Company, but there are some other very good vehicles giving Ford a run for their money.

It is not a full image (yet) but in this picture the new Tacoma looks to be a new body design.

Lovers of high performance pickups are clamoring over the possibility of a Hellcat powered Ram 1500 and thanks to the folks at TopSpeed, we have an idea of what a Challenger SRT-inspired Ram truck might look like if it became a reality.

While the Chrysler’s EcoDiesel gives the Ram 1500 the title of the most efficient half ton truck in America, the Ford F150 could soon feature either a hybrid or diesel drivetrains – both of which are rumored to be in the works behind the closed doors at Ford Motor Company.

Motor Trend is certainly spreading the Truck of the Year Award around, but Ford losing this one is a shocker.

The very first 2015 Ford F150 has been sold through Bluebonnet Motors in New Braunfels, Texas and the very first person in America to own the next generation F150 is retired high school football coach Tim Kingsbury, father of Texas Tech Red Raiders head football coach Kliff Kingsbury.

The full fuel economy figures for the 2015 Ford F150 pickup have been released on the EPA website and with figures of 19mpg city, 26mpg highway and 22mpg combined for the new 2.7L EcoBoost V6, the 2015 F150 is officially the most fuel efficient gas powered half ton pickup on the market.

Neither Ford Motor Company nor the EPA have announced the official fuel economy numbers for the 2015 F150, but the folks at Motor Trend have announced their numbers from the first round of testing with the 2.7L EcoBoost and surprisingly, this new engine falls well short of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

Ford Motor Company is expecting the 2015 F150 ever and if the demand increases enough from what we saw last year when Ford sold over 763k trucks, the automaker might run into a problem meeting the demand for F150 pickups with their current production plan.

Production of the all-new 2015 Ford F150 officially began at the automakers Rouge Assembly Plant this morning and as the first aluminum Ford trucks roll off of the assembly line and enter the early quality control phase, consumers can expect to see these trucks at their local dealership sometime next month.

Ford Motor Company has issued a pair of recalls for the 2014 F150 pickup – one pertaining to the function of the rear brake lights and a second that focuses on the passenger’s side airbag system – both of which pose some risk to the occupants of the truck and others on the road around them.

Ford Motor Company is in the middle of a 38 city tour where regular Joes can get a chance to drive the new 2015 Ford F150, but surprisingly, that tour doesn’t make a stop in Detroit – leaving the folks in Ford’s back yard without a chance to drive the new F150 before it arrives in dealerships later this year.

The 2015 Ford F150 will almost surely be one of the most popular trucks at the 2014 SEMA Show and today we have our first look at two of the new half ton trucks that will help fill the massive Ford Motor Company at the annual Las Vegas convention - with design help from “action sports” celebrities Vaughn Gittin Jr and Brian Deegan.

Ford Motor Company is expecting such a boom in sales due to the introduction of the next generation F150 pickup that the automaker is adding 850 workers at the Dearborn Rouge Truck facility, adding to the 14,000+ new US manufacturing jobs created by Ford as part of their agreement with the UAW in 2011.

The first collection of curb weight data for the 2015 Ford F150 has hit the internet and with a weight of just 4,050 pounds in its lightest form, the new aluminum F150 weighs far less than any of the half ton competitors along with weighing less than the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Ford Motor Company has finally rolled out all of the vital engine specs for the 2015 Ford F150 and in a surprising move, the automaker has beefed up the 5.0L V8 while leaving the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with the same ratings as the 2014 models – which comes as a big surprise considering that the same twin turbo V6 in the new Lincoln Navigator makes quite a bit more power.

Ford Motor Company still hasn’t rolled out all of the information on the 2015 Ford F150, but they announced the towing and payload numbers for the next generation pickup and – as I expected – the new lightweight F150 is the most capable F150 ever with towing and payload figures that make it by far the best in the half ton truck class.

Toyota’s 2015 Tacoma is facing an incredible market challenge from the Ford F-150 and Chevy Colorado. How it will “bend like a reed in the wind” this year, rather than face a stiff wind head-on.

The jurors for the North American Car and Truck of the Year award have announced their short list and, not surprisingly, both the 2015 Ford F150 and the 2015 Ford Mustang are included – and I fully expect to see Ford Motor Company claim both titles with their groundbreaking half ton pickup and sports car.
