Since the introduction of the S197 platform Ford Mustang in 2005, the legendary pony car has been built at the Auto Alliance plant which Ford shares with Mazda but with the news that Mazda is planning to move out in the near future, some analysts believe that the Mustang alone does not move enough units to keep the Flat Rock production facility up and running.

When Ford’s new Electric 2012 Focus hits the streets later this year, it will have one cool battery thanks to a liquid temperature control system that will maintain the optimal thermal range for both charging or powering the motor, whatever the weather. The Electric Focus is the first all-electric, gasoline-free vehicle in the brand’s line, with four more models yet to be released during the next year and a half.

Dr. Andre Seeck, president and chairman of the European New Car Assessment Programme, is visiting with Ford as the company works with global safety officials to create standards for intelligent vehicles that will eventually talk to each other, reducing crashes and congestion. Ford is working with other automakers and governments worldwide to create a common language so vehicles can talk to each other on a common communication standard.

Ford is investing $100 million globally in robotic plant laser inspection to enhance the accurate fit of parts and reduce wind noise beginning with the highly popular 2012 Ford Focus and Explorer models. Their highest volume facilities, including the Chicago and Michigan Assembly Plants along with the Saarlouis, Germany Ford plant, will use the technology to fabricate a more accurate door panel fit. The laser vision technology is part of an effort to achieve leadership in customer satisfaction.
