Some may say that 2022 was the year that electric vehicles (EVs) really took off, saleswise, or (finally) began to rapidly increase market share in the U.S. It is certainly true that electric vehicles sold in larger numbers than ever before in the U.S. last year, and almost every automaker is hurriedly bringing new EVs to market too. But how big are these increases really, and which automakers are capturing the most EV market share?

I’ve written up several predictions of which automotive brands will round out the top 5 plug-in electric sales spots (behind 1st place Tesla). Now that we are near the end of another year, we can pretty well see how those predictions turned out, but what does next year have in store for the U.S. plug-in electric vehicle market? Will the same 5 brands retain their lead spots next year too, or will we start to see some shifts?

The other day I shared a nice lunch and conversation with an older stranger at a winery. We talked about wine, the stories behind each bottle and label, and after a while the conversation turned to electrified vehicles. He was very interested to hear about my experiences and thoughts as he was considering purchasing his first EV or plug-in hybrid for himself, or possibly for his wife.

Tesla just had its AI Day event and it was very technical and detailed. I'm excited for where their AI tech is going, but I also thought about Elon Musk talking in videos about how we must be cautious and very careful as we create AI.

There was a lot of hoopla yesterday about the U.S. introduction of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson and 12 new SUVs by 2021. Oddly lost in the news was an announcement of a partnership with Nvidia, which is much bigger for the company.

While the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport is far more capable of showing off its performance-inspired design on a cool summer night, this rear-wheel-drive, twin turbocharged luxury sedan does a great job of battling Old Man Winter’s fury - reminding me why the Genesis models deserve to be in a brand of their own rather than a model in the Hyundai lineup.

Out of all fairness to Genesis, our 2018 G80 test vehicle shows 11,000 miles on the odometer. It’s been driven. And frankly, this review could be titled “Used Genesis G80 holds up well under abuse,” knowing that this ultimate sport sedan has been beaten and abused by the press corp.

Weighing in at close to 5,000 lbs, Hyundai's luxury division Genesis G90 is a reminder of how comfortable and accommodating a posh full size sedan drive and ride experience can be. But can a non-hybrid car this large, this posh, also be fuel efficient and sport-drive-competent?
