It still a bit of a dream for most of us, but a valid goal nonetheless. With rising gas prices back in the headlines this summer, it's likely the collegiate teams in SAE International's Supermileage competition will be the envy of drivers across the nation. It’s the simple result of vehicles that can achieve fuel efficiency over 2,000 miles per gallon.

The 2012 ZR1 smashes the Viper ACR's ‘Ring record - with video

Today the folks at General Motors posted a video on YouTube of the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 on the famed Nürburgring race course in Germany – a video in which the ZR-1 turned a stunning lap time of just 7:19.63, effectively destroying the record held by the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR since August 2008.

Mazda Miata MX5: The least manly car in the world loses 720 lbs

Inside Line has heard that Mazda engineers were tasked with dropping 720lbs from the current Miata. This is an astronomical number that is surely intended as an exercise to see the limits of what can be shed from the original car. This is excellent news since the Miata MX5 has grown larger and fatter as the years passed which is completely the opposite of what the true spirit of this car is.

Experimental American DeltaWing to compete in 24 Hours of Le Mans

Some of the biggest names in American motorsports will join forces for the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans to demonstrate an experimental race car’s allegedly extreme performance utilizing half the weight and horsepower of a traditional racecar. The DeltaWing looks more like something you’d find on the Bonneville Salt Flats rather than the famous French endurance race.

Facebook voters pick nonprofits that will get free cars, trucks from Toyota

The public in an online vote on Facebook has chosen the first 25 nonprofit organizations that have won a free Toyota car or truck every day through Aug. 16. Toyota will award one more vehicle per day every day until 100 vehicles are given away.

Next gen Chrysler minivan to offer AWD and a new crossover

According to Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, when the next generation Chrysler minivan hits the market it will feature the return of the popular all wheel drive system along with a new crossover variant – building on Marchionne’s comments at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show that one of the two top-selling minivans from Chrysler would be seeing a significant redesign in an effort to end inter-company redundancy.
