For the folks at General Motors, sales were pretty strong in March 2012 with an increase of 11.8% but with Cadillac and Buick both showing significant year over year declines in growth – things aren’t going as smoothly as CEO Dan Akerson would prefer as the first quarter of 2012 comes to an end.

Beginning tomorrow, General Motors will begin notifying owners of select GMC and Chevrolet full sized vans and sport utility vehicles over a concern that a vital component of the steering system could fail – leaving the vehicle uncontrollable in the event that the part should fail at speeds.

General Motors Co. (NYSE:GM, TSX: GMM) and the UAW shook hands on a four-year contract late Friday, giving GM's rank and file their first pay raises in eight years.
