Hyundai announced that the IONIQ name would officially be an EV brand moving forward, and it will encompass Hyundai's ideologies and goals for its smart mobility vision. This news will undoubtedly affect us the consumers, and the EV market moving forward.

The Hyundai IONIQ name will not only get used for identifying EV models, but Hyundai instead transformed the name into a brand that represents Hyundai's EVs moving forward. This step is one of Hyundai's first towards a new chapter for the company to be a top global EV manufacturer, Hyundai's primary goal by 2025.

The Future of Hyundai EVs

I have done multiple articles about the future of Hyundai and Kia and what the two companies hope to accomplish by 2025. This latest announcement about the IONIQ brand helps to solidify the goal for Hyundai. Over the next four years, Hyundai will release three new EVs under the Ioniq brand. The first will get released in early 2021 with the IONIQ 5. This vehicle will be a midsize EV CUV based on the Concept 45.

If there are any Hyundai stocks available, it might be a good time to invest because Hyundai plans to fully double down on the electric car trend as Hyundai sees the rising interest and plan to meet the demands. Ultra-fast charging, spacious interiors, and battery-supplied power will get merged and integrated with an in-car and out-of-car experience for a seamless journey. This design style is what Hyundai will use for its new cars.

New IONIQ Models And Design

The new IONIQ models will have a numeric naming system where the even numbers represent sedans, and the odd numbers represent SUVs. As mentioned, the first model will be IONIQ 5, but an IONIQ 6 and 7 will follow shortly. I am particularly excited about the IONIQ 6 sedan, which is scheduled to be released in 2022 and will be based on the epic looking Hyundai Prophecy concept. Perhaps it can be a budget Porsche Taycan. The IONIQ 7 will be a large SUV that should arrive early 2024.

These new EVs will be on a new platform known as the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) platform. Expect these models to have fast charging and abundant driving range. The vehicles produced on this platform is meant to resemble home living. The cars will be spacious and have glove boxes that are designed like drawers with highly adjustable seats. Ergonomics and connectivity will also be a focus for the interior. The exterior will have a "timeless value," which I'm happy to hear because most new vehicles look dated the moment they are released, and they look "of their time."

Hyundai IONIQ Brand Conclusions

IONIQ is a fusion between the word's "ion" and "unique," not some play on the word iconic. When Hyundai released the Hyundai IONIQ model in 2016, it was the world's first model to offer three electric powertrain options: a hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric on one body type. Moving forward, the IONIQ will embody Hyundai's growing commitment to EVs and a clean future.

Hyundai aims to sell 1 million EVs and obtain 10% of the global EV market by 2025. This achievement will put Hyundai in line to become the world's third-largest automaker for EVs by 2025. The IONIQ brand is one of Hyundai's historical moments that will push the company to make these goals into reality.

The race for EVs is starting, and Tesla is not the only one. The public needs affordable and reliable EVs with a good range and relatively quick charge times at a REASONABLE price. It can't be much more than $30k, but Hyundai will undoubtedly be the company to pull it off as it already sort of has with vehicles like the Kona Electric, which just sold over 100,000 units globally since it launched. These new IONIQ branded vehicles are certainly worth looking forward to, let me know if you will buy an IONIQ EV.
