Big News: 2022 Toyota 4Runner May Offer Blind Spot Monitor

Work for Torque News, follow on Twitter, Youtube and Facebook.

It looks like Blind Spot Monitor will be available for 2022 4Runner. Here is how you can get it.

I get quite a bit of email and comments from my Torque News stories and my “Toyotajeff” YouTube channel videos.

The most common topics I hear about are how to get a TRD Pro in Lunar Rock before they run out and how to work remote engine start in your Toyota.

Well, and about when Toyota 4Runner will be getting blind spot monitor.

Believe it or not, I may finally have some interesting news to share.

2022 4Runner news

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport

We received a news tip from one of our Torque News readers last week from a man who was corresponding with a Toyota representative.

About blind spot monitor and Toyota 4Runner.

This back and forth was just after Toyota issued a press release announcing the new 2022 4Runner TRD Sport.

Here was his question and the response from Toyota.

First, the question.

“This morning’s press release omits mentions of Blind Spot Monitoring on the 2022 4Runner. Will you confirm BSM will not be featured on the 2022 4Runner?”

And now the response.

“BSM is available with the Technology Package on TRD Sport, so it’s an available option. Let me know if you have any other questions.”

Wow. Go 4Runner go.

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport

I reached out to the same Toyota representative last week and have not heard back yet. Please bookmark Torque News / Toyota News for updates on 4Runner and other popular models as they come in.

If this information is to be taken at face value, it looks like there are a few interesting bits to share.

First, Blind Spot Monitor will be available on 2022 Toyota 4Runner.

Second, it will not be standard on all trims right from the factory, but rather as part of an upgrade package on 2022 4Runner TRD Sport. There was no mention of other 4Runner trim levels, although it is certainly possible and probable.

Next, there is a Technology Package for 2022 4Runner. This is newsworthy because there is no Technology Package currently available for 2021 4Runner.

Must be a new wrinkle designed to bring more safety and convenience to new 4Runner owners and potential buyers.

Time for your Toyota 4Runner comments

Of course, I have more questions now.

Will Toyota 4Runner offer the possibility of Blind Spot Monitor on all trim levels for 2022 or just for TRD Sport? Will BSM be standard on 4Runner Limited or as an optional upgrade?

What else is found in the 2022 4Runner Technology Package? To me, I feel like we could see the natural pairing with rear cross-traffic alert. Potentially front and rear parking sonar as well, but I have nothing to go on but guesswork here.

Hopefully, Toyota will reach out to me with concrete facts so I can pass them on to you.

Remember, we are also losing 4Runner Venture Edition and 4Runner Nightshade for 2022 in favor of TRD Sport.

What do you think of the changes so far coming to Toyota 4Runner? Do you like TRD Sport? Also, Electric Lime Metallic was announced as the new 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro color. Will 4Runner follow suit, and if so, how will you feel about this new 4Runner TRD Pro?

No word yet on 2022 4Runner release date, but I expect around September or October time frame.

Thanks for reading everyone. See you next story when I confirm this news...officially.

It seems that 4Runner will also have the multi terrain monitor available as well. David who runs the Automotive Press YouTube channel had a dealer brochure for Canada and discussed some of the 4Runner changes for 22 which include available BSM and multi terrain monitor. Oh, and the special TRD Pro 4Runner color will be yellow, not the electric green of Tacoma.

I really like the 22 sport edition, 4RUNNER, Can’t wait for the build specs. I hope they have more options on the rims though, looks a little too much like Limited. I’m not the off road type, but I don’t care for the Limited “look”. It looks like they did some changes to the interior center dash area, around the radio area. It would be nice to have dual climate zone and ventilated seats.

I'm not holding my breath. But, if true I will be moving from my 2004 Dodge 2500 to a 4runner.

Maybe they got mixed up with Tacoma, which does have BSM on the TRD Sport with technology package. Hopefully not though....
