When Is The Next-Generation Subaru Forester Coming? New Details

The 2023 Subaru Forester arrives now with no new upgrades. When will the Forester compact SUV get a complete remodel? Find out what’s coming next.

When will the next-generation Subaru Forester be available for U.S. customers? The Subaru Forester compact SUV received a complete remodel for 2019. If Subaru stays with its five-year life cycle, the all-new sixth-generation Subaru Forester will arrive as a 2024 model.

The 2022 Forester received a “refresh,” and the 2023 Forester arrives now and is a carry-over model with no upgrades. The current Forester is in its fifth generation, and the sixth generation will come with a new exterior, interior, and possible engine upgrades.

If everything goes as expected, the compact SUV will be redesigned in the second half of 2023 and be available as a 2024 model. The anticipated 2024 Forester release date in the U.S. is about one year away, in the Fall of 2023.

What upgrades will the 2024 Forester have?

Subaru is tight-lipped about future product plans, and they have made no announcements about the 2024 Forester. Planet Subaru says the next-generation Forester will get new exterior styling, a new interior, new infotainment, and safety features.

Will the Forester get the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine? There is speculation that Subaru Corporation will upgrade the Forester with a new gas engine with improved fuel economy. Subaru of America could ask the parent company for new Forester Sport, and Wilderness trim levels with a turbocharged engine upgrade. Subaru has not confirmed any engine upgrades.

Will Subaru offer a sixth-generation all-electric Forester?

Planet Subaru does say, “We know with considerable certainty that there will be no all-electric Forester for 2024.” They say the all-electric Subaru Solterra EV is about the same size as the Forester, so the all-new model will keep its gas-powered Boxer engine.

Will Forester get a new hybrid powertrain?

To meet ever-more-demanding emissions regulations, however, Subaru will likely offer a Forester hybrid engine option similar to the 2023 Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid with Toyota technology.

Should customers wait for the 2024 Forester or buy the 2023 model?

Customers waiting for the 2024 Subaru Forester should know it’s not sure it will get a complete redesign with a new exterior, interior, and possible engine upgrades.

The global supply chain and microchip shortages have recently delayed the introduction of other next-generation Subaru redesigns. The Impreza compact sedan, hatchback, and Crosstrek subcompact SUV were redesigned reliably on a five-year schedule and recently went seven and six years, respectively, without introducing an all-new model.

The 2024 Subaru Forester announcement is about a year away. Stay tuned.

I hope the 2024 Forester has ventilation knobs like the 2023. Subaru lost my purchase of the 2023 Outback Onyx because of moving the vent controls into the infotainment unit. My wife refuses to buy a car where we have to take the eyes off Colorado mtn roads to adjust fan speed and recirculation.

Add six camera iSight X improved to prevent side swiping mirrors etc entering or leaving garages. Remove manual switches for seat warmers and enable MySubaru app to control them. Defrost defog mirrors automatically. Add rain detection to wipers. Add start engine to key fob. Eliminate Auto Start Stop.

There will be an all new Crosstrek for model year 2024, a year late, so I’m expecting Foreater’s full redesign to be a year late, too. Not that I’ll be in the market, unless something catastrophic happens to the 2022 I bought in June.
