Two Important Trends At Subaru Now That Will Affect You The Most

Subtle changes are going on now at Subaru Corporation that will have a big impact on Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent all-wheel-drive cars. See two trends that will affect car shoppers the most.

Subaru’s goal is to make the 2020 Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, Ascent, and WRX/STI the best and safest all-wheel-drive SUVs and sports cars, but subtle changes are occurring in their lineup that will benefit customers even more. There are two specific changes being made car shoppers should be aware of.

The first is the trend many automakers are making, and that’s the end of the manual transmission. For many automaker's sales numbers of the manual gearbox cars are dropping, but for Subaru, it’s all about safety. Subaru will drop all manual shifters in their cars soon to bring EyeSight drivers assist safety technology as standard equipment to their entire lineup.

2020 Subaru Forester with EyeSight

Subaru has already dropped the manual gearbox in the Forester, Outback, and Legacy models, and there are only two new 2020 Impreza models left (Base and Impreza Sport 5-Door) with the manual rower. It’s all because Subaru Corporation will be bringing standard EyeSight to every one of their cars soon. EyeSight cannot be fitted on a manual transmission car, so those models will all be gone soon.

The Subaru brand’s core value is safety and it’s a good thing for customers. The Japanese automaker has one of the best safety ratings of any carmaker having achieved TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards on seven of their 2019 models, more than any other automaker. Those seven models, when equipped with EyeSight driver assist, get the top scores.

Subaru WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition

The next trend at Subaru will also have a big impact on customers. Subaru Corporation announced the EJ20 Boxer engine in the WRX STI will be the last one ever built. Subaru will end the production of the EJ20 2.0-liter turbocharged engine after the last 2020 WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition rolls off the assembly line in Japan. Why is this significant for customers?

With the Subaru EJ Boxer engine consigned to the history books, Subaru will now focus on the FA boxer engine which made its debut in the BRZ coupe. It’s also the engine that powers the new Ascent family hauler and found its way into the newly-redesigned 2020 Subaru Outback XT and Legacy XT models.

Subaru’s 2020 Vision Plan called for further expansion which they said would include new products, more small turbocharged engines, and the new Subaru Global Platform that will underpin all future models. The FA24 will play a big role in what powers your next Subaru all-wheel-drive vehicle. More FA engine derivatives will be making their way into production with additional turbocharged and new hybrid versions coming over the next few years.

The subtle changes at Subaru will lead to customers seeing all new models in the lineup, expect for manual-equipped BRZ and WRX/STI performance models come standard with EyeSight. Performance fans could also see the next-generation Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 and WRX STI powered by FA24 turbocharged engines.

The new 2020 Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent are doing well now, but more new improvements are coming for car shoppers. Stay tuned.

The only thing I want to hear from Subaru is when can I turn the key on my car and have it tell me that new software is installed a la Tesla. The Infotainment center in my 2015 Outback is a complete joke. It takes too long for the dealer to install an update and the updates so far change the problems and don't fix them. You get a F on software.

Subaru have to produce small turbo charged engines ,1,4 turbo, or 1,5 turbo for europa market. Otherwise they can not grow more ..

Regarding manual transmissions, for the Impreza (and presumably the Crosstrek), you wrote, “... It’s all because Subaru Corporation will be bringing standard EyeSight to every one of their cars soon. EyeSight cannot be fitted on a manual transmission car, so those models will all be gone soon.” Then you go on to say, “... expect for manual-equipped BRZ and WRX/STI performance models come standard with EyeSight.” So which of these mutually exclusive statements is true?
