The 2022 Subaru Outback and 2022 Subaru BRZ are now on the World Car Of The Year candidates list. See which model has a better chance to win.

The 2022 Subaru Outback wagon/midsize SUV and next-generation 2022 Subaru BRZ sports coupe are two very different cars, but both are now on the list for 2022 World Car Of The Year. The Outback is Subaru of America’s best-selling wagon in America. The second-generation BRZ just got better and is possibly the best sports car for the money. BRZ was also nominated for the 2022 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year.

Vehicles eligible for World Car of the Year must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units/year, must be priced below the luxury-car level in their primary markets, and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022.

Outback and BRZ have new models coming

Both the 2022 Outback and 2022 BRZ are a global success for Subaru Corporation. The Outback was redesigned for the 2020 model year, but the new 2022 Outback Wilderness is the latest entry in North America and is available now. The rugged model is already a huge success and selling well across the U.S. and Canada.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Outback?

The 2022 Outback comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $27,845, Premium ($30,270), Limited ($34,720), Touring ($38,620), Onyx Edition XT ($36,270), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,120), Limited XT ($39,120), and Touring XT ($41,070). Pricing includes $1,125 destination and delivery fees.

The 2022 BRZ gets a complete redesign from the ground up and is powered by a new naturally-aspirated direct and port fuel injection 2.4-liter Boxer engine. The BRZ is still the most affordable rear-drive sports car around the globe. The all-new BRZ goes on sale this fall for customers in North America.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru BRZ?

The new 2022 Subaru BRZ Premium trim with a 6-speed manual gearbox has a starting price of $28,955. BRZ Premium with an automatic transmission starts at $30,555. The Limited (6-speed manual) has a starting MSRP of $31,455. The Limited with an automatic transmission starts at $33,255. All pricing includes destination and delivery fees.

Which model has the best chance of winning the prestigious award?

The highly-awarded Subaru Outback is a high-riding SUV-alternative wagon that’s the most popular model of its kind. While other automakers are pulling their wagons from the U.S. market, the Outback sells at near-record volume. The Outback is unique and has a chance to win, but the BRZ will be hard to beat.

The 2022 Subaru Outback in the new Wilderness trim will be a strong candidate with its off-road prowess. The second-generation 2022 Subaru BRZ is lighter, faster, safer, and stays affordable with a new trim level that costs less than the previous generation price. The BRZ has the best shot at the WCOTY award.
