Subaru announced organizational changes that will promote electrification. When will the 2023 Subaru Solterra make its global debut?

Subaru Corporation announced today new organizational changes are coming so the Japanese automaker can react quickly to technology changes in vehicle electrification. Subaru says they plan to "accelerate environmental response by giving the Technology Development Department the task of supervising each function on the value axis and setting up a team to promote electrification."

Subaru says its goal is to be an organization better suited for developing new technologies such as electric technology, software, and communications. Subaru announced in May its first-ever all-electric SUV called Solterra that's coming next year.

Subaru and Toyota are collaborating on the new EV SUV for its powertrain development. The Solterra EV SUV will be the size of the Forester compact SUV and will ride on the new e-Subaru Global Platform dedicated to its new all-electric model. The new Solterra will get a wide stance, futuristic styling and will be distinctly Subaru.

The 2023 Solterra will offer customers the traditional Subaru Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek SUV's go-anywhere capabilities, with all-wheel-drive and extra ground clearance, but in an all-electric vehicle.

Subaru stated in May in its STEP mid-term management vision statement; they will contribute to achieving a carbon-free society with Subaru's strengths and technological innovation. The automaker will accomplish this with "highly responsive electric motors, Subaru's AWD capability and driving dynamics will be further enhanced."

Subaru's core values are Adventure, All-Wheel-Drive Utility, Safety, Reliability and Longevity, and Capability. Subaru says, "We will further enhance this deep relationship between Subaru and our customers that makes us different from other brands."

A new report from Car Sensor in Japan says that, unlike the BRZ and GR86 sports coupe, the new Solterra and Toyota bZ4X will be manufactured at the Toyota factory in Japan and not the Subaru Gunma, Japan plant.

What is the range of the Solterra?

Subaru has not confirmed new model details, but initial reports say the Solterra will have an electric vehicle range of 300 miles.

What is the price of the Solterra?

Subaru of America has not announced pricing yet, but reports say the new 2023 Solterra EV SUV will be priced in the low $40,000 range. Pricing will be after Federal ($7,500) and State rebates.

When will the Subaru Solterra make its global debut?

Expect to see the all-electric 2023 Subaru Solterra make its debut early this winter and land in Subaru showrooms in the U.S. in the summer of 2022.

Subaru announced organizational changes today that will further promote electrification. While Subaru is taking a slow approach, the 2023 Subaru Solterra EV SUV is the first step in developing an all-electric lineup.
