Even though you can drive from Boston to Florida or from New York to California in a Tesla Model S, some people are still not satisfied with EV technology.
The Chevy Bolt is a smaller car with presumably a smaller battery. Pumping that current is not a good idea; Tesla gets away with because of battery size. Sure the Bolt could be designed to throttle back the charge, but then you lose some advantage to the quick charge.
Second issue is battery chemistry. Not all lithium batteries are created equal and they. Tesla uses NCA. The Bolt, if the whispers are to be believed, is supposed to use NCM.
From what I've read NCM degrades faster than NCA.

The electric vehicle (EV) coast-to-coast world record was unofficially broken by a team of six with an elapsed drive and charge time of just 58 hours and 55 minutes. Drivers Rodney Hawk, Deena Mastracci and Carl Reese departed from Los Angeles City Hall in a Tesla P85D on April 16 at 11:41 p.m. PST and arrived at New York City Hall on April 19 at 1:36 p.m. EST, setting two new records for the fastest U.S. coast-to-coast time and least charging time in an EV.
I was able to check out the Tesla Model S 70D, which is the newest configuration, and now the entry level Model S. The vehicle has a range of 240 miles on a single charge.
All three of us that were in the vehicle were highly impressed by the instant acceleration, which Tesla Model S 70D vehicle can deliver. Many have said that electric cars are bloated up golf carts that are slow, and only to be used for a commute to work and back. That is not true. Take a look at this video and you may be convinced in the otherwise.

If the Model 3 is successful then that means the car stole massive sales from the others. At that point- it's end game.
In order to come up with competition, the other car manufacturers would have to finance and build or get the battery companies to finance and build similar giga factories. This could take 3-5 years.
Most auto makers are not fully vested in making Electric Cars. Making an EV is reactionary to what they see as a niche market. Instead of building an EV from the ground up, they take their cheapest ICE car and replace components to make it an EV.
Go to any car dealership and ask 20 questions about their EV. An average salesman won't know a thing about it. The rest of their cars they memorize things like ignition timing.
Jamie says Tesla is obviously the foremost example of an electric car, which crushes the gasoline competition, though he doesn't like to talk about Tesla as if its the only game in town, despite being an owner and investor. The big news everyone touted after Tesla Motors released its quarterly report was that it posted big net losses. Most of those losses, of course, were due to acquisitions and other costs.

The big thing to me is the infrastructure. Count the number of public EV stations where you can recharge. Now, count the number of gas stations. Roughly estimating, I'd say there's anywhere between 100 and 1000 gas stations for every public EV station.
