If You Want High Status, Don’t Buy A Subaru Outback

Which high-status vehicles do you recognize the most? A new study reveals the most high-status cars today. Check out the results and see where Subaru ranks.

If you drive a Subaru Outback, Crosstrek, Forester, or Impreza, you didn't buy it because of its status. As I cover all Subaru models, I've found most customers buy a Subaru model for its all-wheel-drive prowess, fuel mileage, affordability, and safety record

A new study by Tinting Chicago reveals the most high-status cars today and where Subaru ranks. The results are surprising.

2024 Subaru Forester grilleTinting Chicago says, "We've seen our fair share of impressive rides throughout our 13 years in business. From flashy paint jobs to the perfect auto tint, we admire every aspect of a vehicle, especially when we have a hand in its eye-catching appearance."

To find out the highest-status cars, they surveyed 2,029 Americans across the nation about the luxury vehicles they see on their roadways. Here are the cars that make people turn their heads the most, how drivers feel about high-status vehicles, Americans' dream cars, and interesting facts about Subaru you probably didn't know.

MY TAKE

As I said, Most customers buy a Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or other Subaru models for its all-wheel-drive prowess, fuel mileage, affordability, and safety record.

I think these four things are essential for shoppers considering a Subaru vehicle.

1. Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel-drive. Subaru has been producing all-wheel-drive vehicles for over fifty years. It's not an add-on feature like some automakers' vehicles. Every Subaru vehicle comes with it except for the rear-drive BRZ sport coupe.

2. Fuel mileage. Subaru vehicles are fuel efficient. The EPA released its new 2022 Automotive Trends Data report that details fuel-mileage results and finds Subaru's lineup of the Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, Ascent, and other all-wheel-drive models ranks the best in U.S. automaker's fleets.

3. Subaru affordability. Recently updated data from Kelley Blue Book reveal that the average transaction price (ATP) for a new vehicle was $48,808, and the average transaction price for a new Subaru all-wheel-drive vehicle was $35,888.

4. Subaru's safety record. Although the new IIHS testing criteria are getting more challenging, Subaru still has four models with the highest safety scores.

As a 2024 Subaru Outback driver I'd agree I definitely didn't buy it for its looks or to turn heads. I'm not here to impress or draw attention. The only compliments the car gets is from people who like that style of vehicle or are impressed by my 1,000lbs of top soil bags and dozen 2x4s crammed in the back at Home Depot with the tailgate still able to close.

I own a 2023 Subaru Legacy Premium. Great riding car, plenty of cabin room, great trunk space, great gas mileage, well made. And a great value compared to other sedans in it's class.
No negatives

I had a Subaru Legacy, great vehicle. It was destroyed by a Camaro on California Highway 9 during a near head on collision. For 300 milliseconds the vehicle acted absolutely flawless. I purchased a used Subaru Impreza the next week. I think my wife's Outback is terrific, and I thought our Forester worked great up until the head gasket blew at 160K miles. These are great low maintenance vehicles that are amazing in challenging weather conditions.

I bought my 2015 Forester because of Eyesight. I bought my 2020 because I loved my 2015. I just sold the 2015 to a friend, and they are very happy with an almost decade old Forester. Especially the safety features.

It's hard for care enthusiasts to believe sometimes, but the majority of people drive what works for them, and don't care about status. Subaru is awesome because of the safety and all wheel drive.

I've owned multiple Subaru's and still have a weak spot for the WRX. Even the controversial design of the VB.
