GM CFO and Vice Chairman to step down April 1st

General Motors announced this morning that effective April 1st, 2011, Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chairman Chris Liddell will leave the company after just over a year of service with the company calling all of the financial shots around the world.

Ford and the feds continue to discuss F150 airbag recall

Late last month, Ford Motor Company announced a recall of around 150,000 units of the Ford F150 pickup over a concern of airbags deploying on their own but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reportedly wants Ford to recall a great deal more, spurring a congressional hearing on the matter.

GM planning to add 2nd shift for Volt production in 2012

Anti-collision technology to become standard in more vehicles

The cost of anti-collision technology is getting cheaper thanks to a new microcontroller from Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. according to R. Colin Johnson, writing for EETimes.com. This new Qorivva 32-bit microcontrollers, based on Freescale's Power Architecture, will go a long way to make collision avoidance systems standard equipment on many more models, rather than just high-end luxury vehicles.

Toyota marks 3 million hybrids sold globally

Having only been available in Japan since 1997 and elsewhere beginning in 2000, Toyota recently announced sales of hybrids have topped 3 million units as of February of this year. Remarkably, the last million have been sold in the short span of time since August 2009.
