See how Traffic Jam Assist can prevent accidents in 2023 Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

I recently had the opportunity to test drive the all-new 2023 Lexus RX 500h. I found it to be smooth, quiet, powerful, and comfortable. In short, a really nice ride and one worthy of your consideration.

One of the newest available features for Lexus RX 500h is Traffic Jam Assist, and I was able to test this feature in heavier rush hour traffic.

Spoiler alert: it works great and can relieve stress and can prevent accidents.

What is Traffic Jam Assist?

Traffic Jam Assist utilizes vehicle radar and cameras to assist you while driving in stop-and-go-traffic.

The system operates at lower speeds, 0-25 mph, and can control the steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal for you if needed.

In other words, Traffic Jam Assist can work hands-free. Provided, of course, that the in-cabin sensor recognizes that you are looking forward and paying attention to the road. It will not work if the sensor thinks you are distracted and looking down or to the side instead of on the road ahead.

Traffic Jam Assist in the 2023 Lexus RX 500h worked well for me. It recognized that I was in heavy rush hour traffic and indicated this on my multi-information display behind the steering wheel. It accelerated for me, and it also braked for me.

I was travelling around 10-15 mph, so I could easily take over if I needed to. However, like I said, this system worked just as I hoped it would.

How to Get Traffic Jam Assist

You can find Traffic Jam Assist in some vehicles that have either Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 or Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. Typically this feature is offered in the higher trim levels and grades of Toyota and Lexus models.

Vehicles such as 2024 Grand Highlander and 2023 Prius on the Toyota side offer Traffic Jam Assist.

Lexus offers Traffic Jam Assist in vehicles like 2023 RZ 450e and the Lexus RX lineup (like RX 500h).
