If You Want a Tesla, Here's 5 Things You Must Think About First

If you're looking to buy a Tesla, there are 5 important things that you must think about first. Here they are.

1. Before You Order a Tesla

When you order a Tesla, you will get an estimated delivery date on Tesla's website. You cannot bump up this date to become sooner. The reason for this is that your Tesla vehicle is getting custom built at a Tesla factory.

You can, however, ask Tesla to delay your order, but Tesla will only do this for so long. Eventually, you will have to take order and pay any price increases for the vehicle and software, like FSD, that are available.

You will also want to look at any State rebates you get for having an electric vehicle. This will help reduce the price you pay for your vehicle.

There are new technologies coming, like a Ryzen processor and the 4680 batteries coming out of Giga Texas. I believe the Ryzen processor is already getting put in the Model 3 vehicles from Fremont according to Twitter and Reddit, but the 4680 batteries are still not available yet. In my opinion, if you want a 4680 battery car, you're going to have to wait a few months to order.

You should also think about how much you're going to drive and what you'll use your car for. If you just drive short distances and don't need to tow anything, a Model 3 RWD (the lowest cost version), with the new LFP batteries makes a lot of sense.

If you're going to take long commutes and tow small trailers, or want a little bit bigger vehicle, a Model Y may make more sense.

2. Before Taking Delivery

Before you take delivery of your Tesla, if you live in a house, make sure you have a charger installed. If you live in an apartment or condo, make sure there is charging nearby. If there is charging near you, no problem you're good to go. I even contacted Tesla service about this and they said as long as you keep any battery between 20% and 80% you'll be good and don't need to worry about not charging every night.

There is something called PPF. It's a clear ceramic/plastic type of coating that goes over the entire vehicle - kind of like a transparent sticker. The reason for this is for any small scratches and dings that come from rocks and other objects on the roads. PPF stops that. Find a place to put that on your car.

3. While Owning Your Tesla

With colder climates, you want to preheat your Tesla before you drive it. It will extend the life of the battery as it gets warmed up by preconditioning it. Do this also before charging it.

There are driver settings that can be specific just for you. You can also give someone else their own profile for their own settings. This will allow you to have seats and mirrors at positions just for you and others can use the vehicle according to their own profile.

There is a center console organizer you can buy from Tesla. This will allow you to have things easily organized in the center without having to dig through the very deep center console.

There is a grocery hanger that allows you to hang towels on hooks in your trunk if you so desire. You can also hang groceries from the hooks.

4. Sentry Mode

There is something called Sentry Mode. This allows your Tesla vehicle to stay on and take video while it is parked. If you have a concern over security, such as being at an apartment or condo parking garage, you can keep your car on and even talk through the car and flash its lights.

In my opinion, this is one of the most valuable features of a Tesla and not just for when it is parked and for security of your vehicle, but beyond sentry mode, for also having video footage if ever there is a problem with your vehicle and another vehicle or person.

5. Enjoy Your Tesla

Enjoy your Tesla - it's a quiet and fast moving/performing vehicle, even if you get the lowest end Model 3. Enjoy the technology and auto pilot, which makes driving on the freeways very simple.

Another cool thing is the resale value of a Tesla, especially if you are transferring the vehicle to a private seller is very easy to do. Tesla walks you through how to do this and it's as easy as typing in their name and email. You'll have to remove the car from your app.

Because resale values are so high, you could make a profit to buy a newer Tesla like a Model Y - or even in the future, the Cybertruck.

What are some other things to think about when getting a Tesla? Are there others we didn't list?

What happens to the Tesla cars that are built, but not claimed? I am trying to find a way to buy a Tesla Y long range at the cheapest price.
