The 2021 Subaru Forester and Legacy are now Consumer Reports 10 Top Picks of 2020 and Best Cars of the Year. The Subaru Forester compact SUV and Legacy sedan have some of the highest overall scores in their categories, factoring in road tests, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety scores.

The Subaru brand is big on safety, and it is one of the factors CR scores in its tests. They only consider models that come standard with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Both models come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology.

Why the Subaru Forester gets high scores

CR says the 2021 Forester tops the Small SUV segment for its practical design, high owner satisfaction, and impressive fuel economy. The model also scores high in their road tests.

They say, “It’s one of the better-riding SUVs in the category, impressively absorbing road imperfections. Its handling is responsive, with less body roll and quicker steering around corners than the previous-generation Forester.”

The Forester is the brand’s top-selling nameplate and also scored highest in ALG’s residual value awards. Forester is recognized as one of the 2021 model-year vehicles for retaining the highest value in the compact SUV segment through the first three years of ownership.

How much does the 2021 Forester cost?

The 2021 Forester comes in five trim levels. The 2021 Forester base has an MSRP of $25,845, Premium ($28,845), Sport ($30,445), Limited ($32,445), and Touring ($35,945). Pricing includes $1,050 destination.

Why the Subaru Legacy gets high scores

CR says the Legacy sedan sets itself apart with a “strikingly smooth ride” and comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel drive. Legacy is the only sedan in America with standard AWD. It gets high marks for its safety technology and attractive interior.

How much does the 2021 Legacy cost?

The 2021 Legacy comes in six trim levels. The sedan starts at $22,895 for the base trim, Premium ($25,145), Sport ($27,095), Limited ($29,895), Limited XT ($34,445), and Touring XT ($36,145). Destination adds $1,050.
