Subaru still has the tightest new car inventory among car brands in the U.S., but things are improving. Subaru says production of the 2022 Forester, 2023 Crosstrek, 2023 Outback, and other new models has increased.

Customers who order a new all-wheel-drive 2022 Subaru Forester, 2023 Crosstrek, and 2023 Subaru Outback may get their new vehicle sooner. Subaru Corporation reports they have increased production of the Forester compact SUV and Crosstrek subcompact SUV in Japan and ramped up the Outback midsize SUV production at its U.S. plant.

The three all-wheel-drive vehicles are the top selling models for Subaru of America (SOA), with the hot Crosstrek leading the Camden, N.J. automaker's lineup, followed by the Outback and Forester.

Subaru Corporation reports production of the Forester and Crosstrek in Japan is trending up and has increased for the fifth consecutive month and is up 12.3 percent in August. For the first eight months of 2022, production at the Gunma Japan plant increased by 4.5 percent.

The report released this week also shows the production of the Outback in the U.S. plant in Lafayette, Indiana, is also up and has increased for the first time in four months and is up 29.1 percent in August. For the first eight months of the year, production at Subaru of Indiana Automotive increased 4.6 percent.

Subaru Corporation announced earlier this year they expect a twenty-eight percent increase in sales next year. They can only accomplish this if they have more 2022 Forester, Crosstrek, and other new models to sell to its U.S. customers, the Japanese automaker's most significant market.

Subaru has been able to keep its assembly lines running, and the Japanese automaker has not had a plant shutdown since June 2nd and 3rd this year.

The 2023 Subaru Outback, Ascent, Impreza, and Legacy models made in Lafayette, Indiana, are arriving at U.S. retailers now. The 2023 Subaru Forester has yet to be announced, and 2023 Crosstrek, 2023 WRX, and 2023 BRZ made in Gunma, Japan, are arriving on U.S. shores this fall.

In May, Subaru said they expect shortages of parts and the supply chain issues to improve and will produce more Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback SUVs for U.S. customers next year. Subaru Corporation says, "In prospect of a recovery especially in its key North American market, Subaru projects consolidated global vehicle sales of 940,000 units (up 28.1 percent from 2022)."

Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales for Subaru of America, says, "We will continue to focus on meeting the high demand for our safe, reliable, and adventure-ready vehicles."

That's good news for new car shoppers buying a 2023 Subaru Forester, 2023 Crosstrek, 2023 Outback, and other new models.
