The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is so hard to come by that it's still on Consumer Reports' updated list of the Worst Deals on New Cars (by subscription) you can buy right now. In CR's reports, Kia and Hyundai still have the most overpriced new cars. In the last report, the Crosstrek was priced 18% over Manufactures Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and now dropped one percentage point.

How much are some Subaru retailers charging for the Crosstrek?

The last report saw the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek 2.0i Premium CVT priced 18% over MSRP. Consumer Reports now says the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is the trim level priced well over MSRP. The Hybrid trim has an MSRP of $35,845, not including destination and delivery fees. The average transaction price is $41,932, $6,087 over MSRP.

Do all Subaru retailers mark up the Crosstrek Hybrid 17 percent over MSRP?

The answer is no, as not all Subaru retailers play by the same rules. News from the NADA Show that just wrapped up says most Subaru of America retailers are charging at or near MSRP across the country. But there are always a few exceptions. You can read the complete report here.

Should you avoid buying a 2022 Crosstrek or Crosstrek Hybrid?

The 2022 Crosstrek and Crosstrek Hybrid are extremely hard to find right now. Your best bet is to find a Subaru retailer following the Subaru Love Promise. Not all Subaru retailers give customers the best deal, and it's best to cross-shop different retailers in your area or even out of state. AutoNation near Denver, for example, charges customers MSRP plus $599 dealer handling and taxes on all models.

It's not ideal to buy a new car right now because of the recent vehicle inventory shortages due to the microchip shortages and supply chain issues. Savvy car shoppers don't have to pay 17 percent over MSRP for a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek or Crosstrek Hybrid if you buy a car in the current limited inventory climate.

What is the price of a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim has an MSRP of $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,125).

With the new model shortages, you likely won't find a new Subaru Crosstrek or Crosstrek Hybrid sitting on a retailer's lot waiting for a buyer. As soon as the transport truck arrives, most new models are already pre-sold. It's best now to order your new Crosstrek from a Subaru retailer, negotiate the best price, and wait for the subcompact SUV to be delivered from the factory.

How long do you have to wait for a 2022 Crosstrek?

If you order a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek today, it will take four to six months for your new model to arrive. The Crosstrek is manufactured in Japan, and wait times are longer than Subaru models manufactured at the plant in Indiana.
