Does Toyota Have a Fix For Its Fuel Pump Recall?
Yes, Toyota has a solution for some vehicles included in its fuel pump recall. However, many owner comments here at Torque News show that the fix does not work for them.

Toyota Fuel Pump Recall - What Is The Problem?
The problem is that the subject vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump which can stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine can run rough. This may in turn cause the vehicle to stall. Even worse, the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, Toyota says that it could increase the risk of a crash.
How Do You Know If Your Toyota Fuel Pump Is Bad?
Toyota says that those with the fuel pump problem can experience rough engine running, warning lights or messages on the instrument panel, engine no start, and loss of motive power.

How Many Toyota Fuel Pumps Have Failed?
Toyota has just added another 1.3 million vehicles to its massive fuel pump recall. That brings the new total to about 6 Million vehicles in America.

What Should I Do If My Vehicle Is On the Toyota Fuel Pump Recall List?
There are three things to do if your Toyota is on the fuel pump recall list.
- First, contact your Toyota dealer immediately to schedule a service visit.
- Second, prepare to be without your vehicle for a period of a few weeks.
- Third, update your AAA membership and be sure you have both an Uber and Lyft app ready to use at a moment's notice.

We are not being sarcastic. If you need to be towed, many tow truck companies, including those contracted by AAA, will not allow you to ride with them in the cab of the tow truck. You need to have your own emergency transportation plan in the event you are towed.

How Long Does The Fuel Pump Recall Repair Take To Complete At the Dealer?
Owners report having to leave the vehicle for an extended time to have the Toyota fuel pump recall fix performed by the dealer. However, the actual time to do the work varies from one hour to as many as four. In some vehicles, the rear seats and carpet need to be removed before Toyota can even begin the mechanical repairs.

How Can I Check To See If My Vehicle Is On the Toyota Fuel Pump Recall List?
You can input your vehicle identification number into Toyota's online recall lookup tool to see if your vehicle is on this list of six million Toyotas.

I own a ‘19 Camry. Toyota can’t do the fuel pump recall yet. How can I stay safe driving this car? And, are there aftermarket replacements I can do now, so I don’t need to wait?

I have a ‘19 Camry as well. I was told end of February also and here we are half way through April so I called and they said the fix is ready. Thanks for contacting me Toyota!! I am so upset about this fuel pump thing. My husband bought his Tacoma the same day I bought my Camry and we feel so taken being sold faulty brand new vehicles. He had his Tacoma serviced with the new part and it still stalls out. Making payments on defective cars. It’s ridiculous. We should be able to return them. Everyone with this problem should be offered something other than this fix that doesn’t even work. I will NEVER BUY FROM TOYOTA AGAIN. EVER

I have a 2020 tacoma and last night for the 2nd time in 3month period ( that I know of) I come out to my garage to hear something ( running) under the bed of my truck. My Friend who just bought a tundra was sleeping in the bed out on the lake in the desert ( yes water in the desert) and this " pump " starts running. Im talking 20 min !. Mine has been into the dealer for 4 scheduled oil changes and Inspections and not a peep out of one of them .

Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction. It will last approximately 15 minutes.

Is there anything that can be done about this? My leakage check lasts longer than 15 mim you can not sleep through the racket and makes the truck the worst car camping vehicle! By the end of a camping trip you are exhausted and pretty well hate Toyota for not mentioning that camping in a Toyota Tacoma is impossible !
Is there anyway to change the time that it comes on?

Is there any way to fix this issue. I bought the Truck for car camping and it is impossible to get a decent nights sleep in it.
Wish they had disclosed this issue and I would have bought a truck for camping that was useable.

I indicated the hesitation is still there even after the recall repair, my original comment was the truck was driving better before the recall fix, if I had known it was going to be worse after the fix I would have not done the recall but because it could pose a danger and it was a recall I had it done; I was happy with my RAV4 now I just like it because it is not like my 2002 RAV4 I had for 14 years with not one problem best RAV4 ever, still considering the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Loss an average of 5MPG's since my fuel pump was changed in my 2018 Tacoma on Nov 10th. I used to get between 22 and 23mpg's and now can't get it past 18mpg, using cruise control or on the interstate. I took it to the dealership and they're saying everything checks out. I showed them the comments from the previous recall article on this page as well as the Top 6 reasons for a decrease in MPG's, #5 being a faulty fuel pump. They filed a report with the corporate office. I would suggest anyone having this issue to take it to the dealership and have a report filed. The corporate office stated that they are unaware of any issues like this happening. I know corporate doesn't want to acknowledge this issue because that would mean they replaced faulty fuel pumps with possibly faulty fuel pumps and that would be catastrophic for the Toyota Corporation. What irritates me most is, I didn't have any of the fuel pump issues mentioned in the recall but didn't have a choice, had to get it changed based on the safety issues of the recall. Hopefully I don't start having anything other than the loss of mpg's.

I have a 2019 Toyota Camry and did not receive the recall notice that was issued October 2020. I had a nail in my tire and my tire guy informed me of the recall in January 2021. I took my car in and now I'm driving a rental (covered by Toyota). Called today.. they said the part may be available at the end of February 2021. I am so disappointed with their reckless negligence and will pursue a class action against them. Unacceptable! Dangerous!

We have Ned Toyota’s for over 30 years. My brand new 2019 RAV4 XLE wasn’t a year old when we got the recall, now it only has 1K miles. We called our dealer last month with no info of when the part would be in. My husband went there about a rental so we could travel, but could not take it out of State AND they want to give us their smallest car. He was referred to a salesperson and he tried to sell him a new car! To make matters worse they would give us $22K, we paid over $38K!our car has been sitting in the garage since the notification. We will never buy another Toyota and never use the dealer who owns it and other dealership in Roseville, CA!

Mrs. Diana, sorry to hear of your issue with your 2019 RAV4. I just had my 2019 RAV4 recall issue completed/repaired today. Toyota RAV4 is a good SUV, I had my first one in 2002 and it lasted for 15 years without any problems or issues, it was the best little SUV ever. I got the 2019 RAV4 due to the reliability of my original RAV. I had more features on my 2002 than the 2019 but I still like the SUV. Don't give up on TOYO keep pressing to get your issue resolved, you paid to much money for the RAV4 and as a most popular TOYO SUV Toyota should honor your request. Dealers today don't understand true customer service, it's called "Honorable" to clients. I kept driving mine even after the recall until they finally called me this April 2021 to repair. I'll see how it drives after the fix. Blessings!

Diana....I eat my hat with the recall repair my RAV4 seems to run worst than before the repair; I’m not a happy camper; owned 4 Toyota’s since 1993 and my 2019 RAV4 has been the most disappointing. This recall repair seems to decease the acceleration instead of improving the fuel injection and acceleration; I can tell one day after the repair in the DMV traffic; it drove better prior to the recall repair; never again TOYOTA hello Nissan of KIA...SO disappointed. I wonder if anyone else’ has had the recall repair and if the vehicle feels improved?

I too am so upset after the fuel pump recall repair
My 2019 RAV4 is no longer the same vehicle I purchased new. I have lost acceleration, engine power, and am getting 5 MPG less than before the replacement. I took on vacation to see if it would improve but it now bogs down if I use the cruise control causing gas mileage to drop dramatically. Also seems to me that it has caused more noise. I intend to write a letter to Toyota Corp and cc: the Texas Automobile Dealer's Assn. Needless to say, I am very unhappy!

My 19 Tacoma stopped running and the dealer verified it is the fuel pump so they are giving me a loaner. They have no idea when the pump will be available which I find interesting since my wife had the pump in her Highlander replaced over 6 months

I have a 2019 Toyota Tundra it has 25,000 miles. I recently had the recall for the low flow fuel pump replacement completed, it’s been a month and now I’m there’s problems starting with it starting, it acts as it’s not getting any fuel and displays the same issues as the original fuel pump if not worse

2019 Avalon. Just visited dealership for 10K checkup. They informed me of the recall and asked if I wanted new pump. Weird. It's a recall. Why would I not want it replaced? Said they would order it and call me. Now I see Lester Ernest had a bad experience. Anyone else had theirs replaced and had any problems? It's not too late for me to back out, so I'd really like to know. But it's OK. If this goes badly, I'm trading for a Honda. This is first Toyota I've ever owned. I guess we'll see how this goes.

I got mine replaced on Friday. Not sure what status is for ALL fuel pumps, but I know they were available for my 2019 Avalon. The dealership informed me when I went for 10K checkup that they would order and set up another appt. It all happened pretty quickly after that. Warning to others. I smelled gas fumes all weekend inside my car, inside my garage, etc. Learned fuel pump is under back seat, and when they pull it out gas leaks down onto the gas tank. Tank is shaped with several dips/valleys where fuel can settle. Once they FINALLY figured out there was NO leak and where the smell was coming from, they hosed off the gas tank and removed all the gas that had settled there. I drove away happy with absolutely no fumes/odor. It was a pain and they had no clue until they figured it out. Learning experience for us all.

I am from Panamá Central América. And 3 times my 2020 rav 4 stopped working without the dealer knowing what was going on.

For some reason when my car stopped working and I se t it over the dealership they claim that there was no error message. The error message I experienced were: epb failure. Drive, start and stop fail. Engine stop visit your dealership.

So this time I Made the dealership come to my house because I had enough and everything on tape and documented.

When they came to my house they could finally after severa months of this problem take the code that was wrong.

It was a defective fuel pump.

So Now im just waiting for them to finish with my car. They are supooused to give me my car tomorrow.

If you have any issues like this you can let me know so we can Share comments about it

How long does it take to get new fuel pumps? My 2019 Rav 4 is on the recall list. Had no idea that there were so many cars out there with this problem. When you pay $33,000 for a new car, it should be in fine working order. Then you get the run around from the dealership. This was my fifth Toyota purchase.......trust me, it will be my last. Anyone out there know of a class action suit being filed?

Linda C I agree with you I have had 4 Toyota’s the 2019 RAV4 being my 4th one and my 2nd RAV4; I eat my hat now and regret this 2019 model, nothing like my 2002 RAV4 no problems nothing, it was a perfect SUV; my 2919 I just had the recall repair and my RAV4 runs worst now than before they installed the recall repair. I can tell it doesn’t have the reeving acceleration sound like it did before where you can feel the exchange of transmission shifting, with the recall repair, seems like the acceleration pick up is more hesitant now. This pees me off, a recall repair and now it seems worst, never again Toyota, Here I come Nissan, Mazda, or KIA. I’m really disappointed in Toyota and they do not care about their customers

I have a 2018 XSE. I was pulling out into traffic back in early Feb 2021 and my car stalled. All, lights on the instrument panel came on. I was almost creamed but luckily the other drivers were able to avoid me. - I didn’t drive my car for two months until they finally had this fix in April. - I feel Toyota knew the issue was worse than they led people to believe. I’m extremely unsatisfied with my car. I will never put that much money in a Toyota again

I received a recall notice concerning a low volume fuel pump on my 2017 Tacoma. I contacted the dealer May 15th and was told they would order the part and contact me when it was available. I got the pump replaced today 8/6/21. The dealer apologized for the delay saying there was a shakeup in personnel I was offered a loaner for the 4 hours required for repair. When I arrived at the dealer stated the repair would only require two hours so I chose to wait in their nice lounge. My truck runs better that it did when I first bought it. I always had the feeling it was starving for fuel. It idles better is more responsive from a dead stop and shifts better. It drives totally different and was well worth the wait.

My car has been in the dealer since August. There is no fix for the fuel pump issue. If yours fails you are out of a car. Toyota will pay for a rental if its under warranty, if not you may be out of a car. They have no information or idea when a fix will be available. It is now December and I am still in a rental. All these sites say there is a fix. Trust me there is not.
