In a comprehensive test, the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Chevy Colorado ZR2 went head to head. The results are not easy to explain. The testers were the experts at PickupTrucks.com and this test covered every aspect of midsize, off-road pickup driving and ownership. In the end, the Tacoma TRD Pro won more categories than did the Colorado ZR2, yet the win went to the Chevy.

Tacoma TRD Pro Beats Colorado in Key Areas
The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro beat the Chevy Colorado ZR2 in the Powertrain, Acceleration, Interior, and Value categories. Perhaps the biggest reason for three of these segment wins was that the testers opted for the expensive, and slow diesel engine option. The fan base loves the idea of a diesel Chevy Colorado, and we are not trying to say they are wrong to love it. However, in a sport truck it is simply the wrong choice. Read the story to hear why. Had the 3.6-liter gasoline engine been chosen as the Chevy's engine, this contest may well have been a landslide in favor of the Chevy.

Chevy Colorado Beats TRD In These Areas
The only areas that the Colorado ZR2 beat the Tacoma TRD Pro were braking, suspension, and rock crawling. Although the Colorado ZR2 won the important suspension category, it did not help it to win the dirt and sand running or off-road technology categories. Those were ties.

Lets see who wins when we take into account quality, dependability, reliability, resale, maintenance and longevity. I own a GMC and a Toyota. One is hands down better built.
