First Person to Camp Overnight Inside a Tesla Cybertruck Reveals Why the Cybertruck is the Worst Tesla to Sleep In

There are some notable advantages to using electric cars over internal combustion vehicles. The main advantages include the fact that electric vehicles are better for the environment, have better performance, are cheaper to run, need very little maintenance, and so on.

These are the biggest advantages however, one minor and albeit quirky advantage of driving an electric vehicle is the fact that you never have to turn an electric vehicle on.

Unlike internal combustion vehicles which need an ignition to get started, electric vehicles are always on and ready to go on demand.

This fact has led to some quirky use of electric vehicles. Since electric vehicles can keep their A/C on all night without running an engine, people have started to use them as a place to camp and sleep in.

The first electric vehicle maker to officially support camping all night was Tesla. In camp mode, you can turn on your A/C, all the lights turn off, and as long as your battery doesn’t dip below 20%, you have a temperature-controlled greenhouse you can camp inside in.

If you’re camping out in nature, Tesla vehicles are especially nice as the expansive glass roof and fold-flat back seats give an unobstructed view of the sky and a relatively large continuous flat surface to put a sleeping mattress in.

Sleeping inside electric vehicles has caught on as a trend that there are even companies that specialize in producing mattresses custom fit for various electric vehicles.

In the Tesla Model S, Model X, Model Y, and Model 3, the back seats of these vehicles fold down in a way that they create a flash surface with the trunk which means you get about 6 feet long flat surface to spend the night in.

Due to this fact, Tesla vehicles are one of the best vehicles to camp in. We know that’s true for Tesla’s Model S, 3, X, and Y lineup, however, how does Tesla’s newest vehicle, the Cybertruck, handle camping overnight?

The Cybertruck is by far Tesla’s largest vehicle to date, and given that Tesla’s other vehicle lineup already feel comfortable to spend the night in, one would assume the Cybertruck would simply be a splendid place to camp inside.

However, the problem is there is no opening between the Cybertruck bed and the passenger compartment. This means there is no way for the built-in A/C to reach someone sleeping on the truck bed.

The second problem is even if the A/C worked in the bed, the Cybertruck vault closes without any view of the outside making the whole experience a bit claustrophobic.

So what other options are there for camping in the Cybertruck? One possibility attempted by Dan from the What’s Inside YouTube channel is to sleep on the floor of the rear passenger compartment.

The Cybertruck’s rear seats fold upwards leaving a relatively spacious opening on the floor. However, since you are sleeping from door to door, you only have a little more than 4 feet of space to stretch your legs.

This does not seem like a comfortable way to sleep, however, for our viewing pleasure, Dan from What’s Inside has become the first person to spend the night in a Cybertruck.

So how was his experience? Overall, Dan says the whole thing wasn’t too bad, he put a mattress on the floor for added comfort, however, at more than 6 feet tall, he found fitting in the cramped space a struggle.

As for energy usage, Dan started the night at 88% (281 miles) however, after running the A/C all night to keep him warm in the snowy weather, the range went down to 246 miles (77%).

Dan says overall if you are in a pinch it’s possible to spend the night in your Cybertruck however, due to the lack of an opening mid-gate, despite its enormous size, the Cybertruck is Tesla’s least comfortable vehicle to camp in.
