The Next-Generation Subaru Impreza Remodel And What It’s Missing

It's been a long time coming, but the next-generation Subaru Impreza is finally here. The 2024 Subaru Impreza compact car made its global reveal at the Los Angeles Auto Show today. Subaru of America made the new Impreza debut via a live stream from its social media channels. Here are images, upgrades over the old model, and what's not coming for the new-generation model change.

What's new for the 2024 Subaru Impreza?

The all-new sixth-generation Subaru Impreza compact car gets high-tech upgrades, new features, and a restyled exterior design. We reported the Subaru Impreza would drop the sedan body style last week, and Subaru confirmed it with the recent reveal. Subaru says the sedan is out, and the hatchback is in for more playful fun and utility.

The 2024 Impreza hatchback will be paired down and now comes in Base, Sport, and new RS trim levels. Even though the sedan body style is missing from the 2024 Impreza lineup, it won't be missed. The hatchback offers significantly more utility and function for active compact car shoppers.

The new 2024 Subaru Impreza 2.5-liter RS

The new RS comes with a 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 178 ft lbs of torque. The RS has a sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and SI-Drive. The 2.5-liter engine is mated with a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission featuring an 8-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters.

Subaru says the new Impreza RS trim offers unique exterior trim elements, including RS badging on the front doors and rear hatch, 18-inch alloy wheels in a dark gray finish, black finish on the front grille, side spoilers, side mirrors, upgraded LED headlights, and LED fog lights.

The cabin of the RS features gunmetal and simulated carbon fiber interior trim accents, sport front seats in black cloth with red cloth bolsters, and carpeted floor mats that feature the RS logo. The RS also includes an upgraded leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, aluminum alloy pedals, heated front seats, and rear USB charge ports.

Outside upgrades

The exterior of the new Impreza gets styling upgrades but not significant changes true to Subaru's design philosophy, which is "less change is better."

Inside improvements

The interior now comes with an 11.6-inch center information display and an improved infotainment system with smartphone-integrated functionality with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also offers on-screen controls for audio, climate, and vehicle features.

Improved driving dynamics

The next generation Impreza gets improvements to the Subaru Global Platform that should improve ride quality. Impreza utilizes a full-inner-frame construction for improved driving dynamics, a smoother ride, and a quieter cabin. Impreza now has a ten percent stiffer chassis for improved performance.

A revised Symmetrical all-wheel-drive

All hatchback trims come standard with a revised Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system that Subaru says offers a faster response time, more agile handling, and better cornering ability. They also come with active torque vectoring, enhancing Impreza's all-wheel-drive system.

New safety technology

The 2024 Impreza will feature the next-gen EyeSight driver-assist safety system. Impreza features a new stereo camera unit that nearly doubles the angle view compared with the previous generation model. The unit enables the recognition of objects at wider angles and farther distances.

Like the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, the new Impreza features a new wide-angle mono camera enabling recognition of motorcycles and pedestrians at an even wider angle when traveling at low speeds. Subaru says it can initiate pre-collision braking "in an even wider range of situations and provides the best EyeSight performance ever."

Improved collision safety

Subaru says automatic emergency steering is included on models equipped with blind-spot detection, lane keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. The safety feature works with EyeSight and blind-spot detection to assist with steering control to help avoid a collision at speeds less than 50 mph.

A standard rear-seat reminder is designed to help prevent child or pet entrapment by alerting the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle.

When will the 2024 Impreza be available for U.S. customers?

Subaru of America says the new sixth-generation 2024 Impreza hatchback will arrive at U.S. retailers in the spring of 2023.
