The US gov’t announces the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster

The information listed on the US government’s EPA website doesn’t really offer anything that we didn’t already know about the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster but the fact that the model appears on the EPA website is all but a positive confirmation that it is on its way. The page for the 2012 Aventador Roadster does list the engine size, a naturally aspirated V12 measuring 6.5L and the fact that it features a 7 speed automatic transmission – although Lamborghini would probably prefer to see it called a “dual clutch” transmission. The EPA listing also points out that the Aventador Roadster will feature their advanced all wheel drive system and this topless supercar is subject to the dreaded gas guzzler tax.

Not surprisingly, the numbers on which the EPA focuses on their website – miles per gallon and carbon footprint – are pretty much the same for the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster as they are for the current Aventador Coupe. This means that the topless Aventador will offer roughly 11mpg around town and 17 on the open road with a carbon footprint towards the higher end of the scale – 14.3 on a scale that tops out at 16.2. However, if you have the means to drive a 2012 Aventador Roadster your life is probably too good to have to worry about your fuel mileage or how much smog you are creating.

Every vehicle sold in the United States is subject to an array of fuel economy, engine emission and crash safety standards enforced by the government, with the folks at the EPA responsible for coming up with the official mile per gallon ratings and carbon emission levels. All of that information is available on their website so for the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster to show up is not unusual, but it does seemingly let the “cat out of the bag” for the folks in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy.

Unfortunately, the fueleconomy.gov website does not have an image of the upcoming Aventador Roadster but when we do get our first good look at the new topless Lambo - we are willing to bet that it will be awesome.
