Back in September, we brought you an early look at the exterior colors being offered for the 2020 Dodge Challenger. Back then, there were 12 exterior colors, 9 of which returned from 2019 while 3 were new for 2020. There were 15 exterior colors for the 2019 model year, so with only 9 returning, that meant that 6 were being discontinued for 2020.
One of those discontinued colors included Destroyer Grey, which has been surprisingly popular in its short time on the option list. Many people commented on our article about the 2020 Challenger color palate to complain about the lack of Destroyer Grey, but we have some good news. Based on a post on Hellcat.org, a new color named Smoke Show will soon be offered on the 2020 Challenger, and while it isn’t identical to Destroyer Grey, it may be close enough to satisfy fans of grey cars.
Five New Challenger Colors
When we first talked about the 2020 Dodge Challenger exterior colors, we knew about 3 new colors – Frostbite, Hellraisin and Sinamon Stick. When the 50th Anniversary Edition package was introduced in Los Angeles, we met Gold Rush, the fourth new color for 2020. Based on this forum discussion, it looks as though the fifth new exterior color for the 2020 Challenger will be Smoke Show. A member named “2017Hellcat” shared a table for the 2020 Challenger, showing the expected start dates for those colors.
As you can see, Frostbite will be the first available later this month, with the other four colors rolling out between now and April 13th. That is when Smoke Show is expected to arrive. A member of the forum also shared an image of a Challenger in Smoke Show, but it is tiny, so we have included it here. The image at the top of this piece shows a 2019 Challenger in Destroyer Grey, but we have crudely edited that picture to make it a bit lighter.
Discussions on the forum and in social media groups suggest that Smoke Show will be similar to Destroyer Grey, but it is a bit lighter. Unless it is sitting next to a Destroyer Grey car, fans of the darker color might find this lighter color acceptable in the absence of the darker grey.

Of course, this information depends on the details posted to the forum being accurate. We have reached out to FCA to see if there is any additional word on Smoke Show and we will update this piece when we hear more. For now, it looks as though a new grey will be available on the 2020 Dodge Challenger later this year.
