Look mom no hands. Watch my video demo to see how Toyota lane tracing assist can help you.

Think about a time when you were driving near the end of a long road trip. You know you are not as sharp as you should be, but you are almost home. So, you continue driving.

Or what about a time when you were not looking one hundred percent at the road, either by distraction or for some other reason. And you drifted out of your lane by mistake.

These are times when it would be helpful to use your vehicle’s lane tracing assist feature. You may not even know you have this important feature.

I recently tested this on a 2021 Toyota RAV XSE Hybrid. Pretty amazing technology really.

Toyota Lane Tracing Assist

Lane tracing assist is part of both Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. This safety system utilizes radar and camera technology to keep your vehicle centered in its lane.

Even while going around a big curve on the highway.

To set up, make sure your dynamic radar cruise control is turned on and is set for a specific speed. Also, you must have your lane departure alert turned on. These functions can both be performed on your steering wheel controls.

My 2021 RAV4 Hybrid successfully stayed centered in its lane during my demo. I even (yes, I was careful) took both my hands off the steering wheel for up to eight seconds while watching my car taking the curve on its own.

My included video demonstrates the capabilities of lane tracing assist. You can find this video and nearly 800 other Toyota review and how-to videos on my “Toyotajeff” YouTube channel.

After eight seconds, the vehicle alerts you to hold the steering wheel, as it should.

This system works well when the road is both clear and when encountering heavier traffic. Your vehicle can follow the path of the immediate path of the vehicle in front of you if in tighter traffic. Quite remarkable.

Time for your thoughts on Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

My recent evaluation of the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE proved to me what a smart and popular purchase this is.

RAV4 XSE Hybrid drives smooth and relatively quiet, both on city streets and at highway cruising speeds. The combined 40mpg is a perk that will attract buyers as well.

Plus, Toyota RAV4 XSE Hybrid is an on-demand all-wheel drive vehicle. On dry roads it operates like a front-wheel drive. It can switch instantly to all-wheel drive when your RAV4 hits wet or slippery terrain.

What do you think of the lane tracing assist feature? Do you have this on your current car, and have you tried it for yourself?

I love this feature on my 2021 Rav 4 XLE Hybrid when it works correctly but I have also had it steer me from the center lane of 3 lanes of interstate all the way to the left lane when I let it go the way it was guiding me. I will bring it up with the dealer on my first service.

I have just had my 2021 Rav4 XLE Hybrid on the Interstate for the first time. I used the Radar Detecting Cruise Control to regulate my speed. But then, the LTA kicked in and kept steering back and forth in the lane and would not center in the lane. I had to read the manual to learn how to disengage the LTA. I can hold the lane much better than the LTA did.
