Mercedes-Benz would have liked to have a big surprise when it revealed the E-Class Coupe last night. But someone leaked out the brochure which we brought to you earlier this week. There are still some surprises we can share with you about the new E-Class coupe.

Let's begin with the design as the E-Class is basically a copy of the C and S-Class coupes. This means the front end has a grille shaped like a diamond. The side is very clean and features a glass area minus the b-pillar. The clean continues around back with a simple design for the trunk lid and tailights that extend into the rear fenders.

If you have spent anytime in the E-Class sedan's interior, you'll feel right at home in the coupe. Both models feature the same luxurious appointments, simple center stack layout, and dual-screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The infotainment system now comes with the ability to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The interior also boasts more space than the outgoing E-Class coupe. The new coupe rides on a wheelbase that 4.4-inches longer and a body that is 2.2-inches wider. This means the passengers sitting in the back will not feel like they are in a penalty box.

The U.S. spec E-Class coupe will only be offered in the E400 which boasts a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 making 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. This will come paired with a nine-speed automatic and the choice of either rear-wheel or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The European market will get the E400 with 4Matic along with three other engines,

  • E220d: Turbocharged 2.0L diesel four-cylinder - 191 bhp and 295 pound-feet
  • E200: Turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder - 181 bhp and 221 pound-feet
  • E300: Turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder - 242 bhp and 273 pound-feet

We wouldn't be surprised if there is an AMG variant or two coming in the future.

Mercedes-Benz will offically unveil the the 2018 E-Class coupe next month at the Detroit Auto Show, with sales beginning in the U.S. in the summer.
