Tesla Model 3 Gets an Overhaul in 2023

We have some news that the Tesla Model 3 will undergo some major changes for 2023, most of which will be to reduce the cost of the car. This will likely lead to changes in the interior with lese expensive materials and changes on the outside as well.

This improvement to the Tesla Model 3, called "Project Highland", suggests that Tesla will make some major changes to this vehicle. Tesla's Model 3 has been in the market for about 5 years now and most changes to it have been pretty minor.

The biggest change is to the RWD or standard range Model 3 to have LFP batteries which can be charged to 100% regularly. This is a big improvement on the standard range vehicle.

Tesla will most likely reduce the number of components on the Model 3 and will keep the major features that customers like while getting rid of things customers don't use that much. I could see Tesla removing the heated seats and steering wheel from the vehicle.

Project Highland

The redesigned Model 3 should be ready around Q3 of 2023. The improvements that seem to be on the docket are Model Y changes that could be brought to the Model 3. This would include front and rear giga castings and a structural battery pack. These will be necessary on the Model 3 if the cost is going to be brought down significantly.

Note, the Tesla Model 3 has gone through improvements over the years as we've mentioned. Software and hardware have improved substantially and customers may want visually evident changes. I think Tesla should increase the quality of the paint and get rid of heated seats and steering wheel. If they do that and use two giga castings for the front and back and use a structural battery pack, that will greatly reduce costs.

I have a Model 3 RWD that I got in August, 2022. It's been a great car and charging to 100% has been very beneficial. It gets very good mileage and the only con I can think of for it is that it's smaller and lower than the Model Y. As someone who is tall, the Model Y would be easier to get in and out of, but that's about the only advantage of the Model Y for me.

It will be interesting to see what Tesla decides to change in the Model 3 and what they remove. Mostly, I think they'll try to build the Model 3 much more efficiently with major improvements in making a build simpler.

Let's see what Tesla comes up with. Do you think Tesla will be able to greatly reduce the cost of the Model 3?

Jeremy J-you are usually spot on with your Tesla commentary, but encouraging any Tesla to drop heated seats/steering is just wrong. Any EV driver knows those features are necessary in winter driving in most climates to extend range, and also should be available in the luxury vehicle segment. In no way does removing those features make a Tesla a better car. Please rethink this.

You are right, they are better instead of using the climate controls. I live in Utah where it gets cold in the winter, but don't use any climate controls or heated seats. I'm a little crazy, heh. I don't like to use up my battery unless necessary. But I can see your point.

We are buying our first Tesla (model 3). This will be 2023 model. We are little confuse after reading the report of design changes. Is Tesla planning to change the shape of the vehicle or just removing/adding some components?

I just did a TEST build of a model 3 standard range, scroll down to interior features on the right hand side and then click details. It will bring up several tabs, scroll to the right and you will see a page that lists interiro features. Shows heated seats and steering wheel.

Heated seats and steering wheel saves range instead of needing the climate control as much. I used both on my Model Y all the time. Writer must live in a warm climate.
