Do Subaru cars offer good value? The Vincentric Best CPO Value in America awards give the nod to the new Subaru Outback and Legacy sedan. What does it mean for customers?

Every year, Vincentric gives consumers an idea of what certified pre-owned (CPO) models offer the best value and are the lowest cost to own. For 2021, they give its top awards to the new Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy, which both have lower than expected ownership costs.

The Subaru Outback takes home the award for the fourth consecutive year, and Subaru Legacy wins for the second straight year. While Vincentric gives the award to CPO models, it may be best to buy a new 2021 Subaru Outback and Legacy. Keep reading to find out why.

To get the Vincentric Best CPO Value in America award, they measured the Outback and Legacy's cost of ownership using eight different cost factors; depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel economy, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost, and repairs.

The Subaru Outback earned the Vincentric Best CPO Value in America award in the Mid-Size SUV/Crossover segment. Vincentric gave the Outback award for having the lowest maintenance, insurance, and operating costs in its class.

The 2021 Outback recently picked up a Best Buy award from Consumer Guide. The 2021 Subaru Outback was selected best because it offers the "best of both worlds" as it offers a car-like ride and has an SUV versatility. CG says, "What's more, it's solidly built and offers an excellent range of comfort and safety features."

The Subaru Legacy received the Vincentric Best CPO Value in America award in the Mid-Size Car segment. Along with its stablemate Outback, the Legacy also has the lowest operating, insurance, and maintenance costs in its class.

The 2021 Legacy sedan just picked up another award. Consumer Reports pick the Legacy as a 10 Top Pick of 2020 and Best Car of the Year. The Legacy sedan has some of the highest overall scores in its category, factoring in road tests, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety scores.

Should you buy a new or pre-owned Outback or Legacy?

While the Vincentric award gives the award to the best certified pre-owned models, the Subaru brand has the highest resale and retained value of any automaker. Subaru cars have the best resale value and retained value awards in 2020 from J.D. Power, ALG, and Kelly Blue Book.

So while a used Subaru is a good value, it may be best to buy a new 2021 Subaru Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, or Legacy model. You'll likely only pay a few thousand dollars more and drive a new model.
