The latest ASCI automobile study found Subaru is number one in safety technology for the second year. They are also top-rated for dependability two years in a row and number one in product quality two years in a row.

How does Subaru compare with other mainstream brands?

The ACSI study asks customers to evaluate their recent experiences with their car brand between July 2021 and June 2022. Among mainstream (non-luxury) car brands, Subaru scores the number one mainstream brand along with Toyota with a score of 80.

The ASCI study says overall customer satisfaction with automobiles slides 1.3 percent. Ford slips 1 percent to 76 yet outpaces last-place Stellantis (comprised of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram nameplates), which dips 1 percent to 75.

These scores were calculated on a 0 to 100 scale in the ACSI using various survey questions that measure different facets of customers' experiences with the product or service.

Why are Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and other model owners satisfied with the new car? The ACSI study reveals customers with mainstream brands are most happy with the vehicle's comfort (81), dependability (81), driving performance (81), and vehicle safety (81). Mainstream car buyers are least satisfied with the vehicle's warranties (75) and gas mileage (74).

"We are pleased to be recognized by the ACSI as the number one automotive brand in safety, drive performance, and service quality, especially because this recognition comes directly from Subaru customers," said Tom Doll, President and Chief Executive Officer, Subaru of America, "We understand that safety, quality, and dependability are our customer's top concerns, and we will continue to deliver the top-notch Subaru ownership experience they expect."

In a challenging environment, 2022 Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent customers score their all-wheel-drive vehicles higher than all other car brands' vehicles. In the 2022 ACSI customer automobile study, Subaru is the number one car brand in six key areas; service quality, product quality, safety technology, dependability, customer satisfaction, and drive performance.
