The Smokin’ Hot Forester Keeps Subaru Out Of The Cold

How hot is the 2024 Subaru Forester? It keeps Subaru on top and has a consecutive sales streak going.

Without the hot 2024 Subaru Forester regaining its top seller position for Subaru of America (SOA), the Camden, N.J. automaker doesn’t keep up its impressive win streak. Thanks to the Forester compact SUV, SOA has 18 consecutive months of continued yearly month-over-month growth.

It’s the 2024 Subaru Forester that’s the top sales model to start the new year. I report on Subaru of America’s sales monthly, and the Forester has been the hot model for the past six months. The Forester, before it gets a remodel, is not slowing down.

Forester is back on top.

SOA says the 2024 Forester compact SUV regained its position as the top performer by volume with 12,619 vehicle sales, compared with 10,114 in January 2023, a 24.8 percent increase over the same month in 2023.

It was Forester, followed closely by the Crosstrek and the Outback in January.

The 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV and 2024 Outback midsize SUV are not far behind. The next-generation Subaru Crosstrek’s sales followed closely behind, with 11,325 vehicles sold in January, and the 2024 Subaru Outback midsize SUV sales also remained strong, with 11,300 models delivered to customers.

Only three Subaru models were in positive figures to start the year.

The Forester, Outback, and Legacy were the only three models that were up in sales volume compared with January 2023. All other models dropped in January.

The Forester had the highest percentage of increase by far of any of Subaru of America’s all-wheel-drive nameplates in January.

  • Subaru Forester - 12,619 (+24.8%)
  • Subaru Outback - 11,300 (+8.5%)
  • Subaru Legacy -1,492 (+17.5)

Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales, says, “Car buyers have increasingly more and more reasons to choose Subaru as we meet their needs with a line of vehicles that match their lifestyles.”

Why is the Forester the hottest pick now?

MY TAKE

Forester rides higher than other compact SUVs, with 8.7 inches of ground clearance and 9.2 inches for the outdoor-themed Wilderness trim level. Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel drive gives it all-weather performance, the X-Mode offers extreme weather capability, and the dual function of the X-Mode on some trims gives it all-terrain performance.

The Forester appeals to the most active customer’s lifestyles. Customers go beyond using Forester for a commuter or grocery hauler. Forester’s cargo space is nearly as much as the Ascent family hauler. Check out the surprising comparison between Forester and Ascent here.

What is the 2024 Forester pricing?

The Forester comes in six trim levels; The Base Forester starts at $28,190, Premium ($31,390), Sport ($32,960), Limited ($35,070), Wilderness ($36,015), and Touring ($38,490). Pricing includes destination and dealer fees ($1,295).

What’s next for Forester?

The remodeled 2025 Subaru Forester arrives this spring with significant upgrades. I’ve written extensively about the sixth-generation Forester. Check out the stories below for additional information.

Before the 2025 Forester arrives, the outgoing 2024 Forester stays as hot as any model in SOA’s lineup.
