2020 Subaru Ascent pricing and new features have been announced. See how the SUV adds another level of safety for families.

Subaru brought the largest vehicle they ever produced last year and it’s been a big hit with customers. Subaru needed a large SUV to give growing families trading in a Forester or Outback an option when they are ready to move up to a larger vehicle. The Ascent 3-Row family hauler was introduced last June and is now in its second year.

Subaru announced this week, the 2020 Ascent family hauler is coming this summer with a few new upgrades. Subaru also announced pricing for the 3-Row SUV, and the base model remains at $31,995, the same starting price as the previous model. The 2020 Ascent Premium trim gets a $200 price bump, the Limited trim gets a $350 increase and Touring models also go up $350. As with the first year model, Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and X-Mode are standard across all trims along with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.

Rear Seat Reminder

Every year, an average of 37 children die trapped in hot cars, so new seat reminder systems are an extra level of safety for busy parents. For the 2020 model year, all Subaru Ascent trims will come with a new Rear Seat Reminder. The new feature will give the driver a reminder to check the rear seat before exiting the SUV. It’s designed to assist in preventing a child or a pet from accidentally being locked and trapped in the vehicle.

Subaru says the system will not be able to physically sense the presence of children or pets in the rear seat area, but it will turn on if one of the following conditions is met: the vehicle is started within 30 minutes after a rear side door is opened and closed; a rear side door is opened and closed when the vehicle is running and stationary; the vehicle is turned off and back on again within 30 minutes, and the rear side doors remained closed.

The Rear Seat Reminder will alert the driver with an audible sound after the vehicle is turned off and will display a warning message in the Combination Meter Display, reminding the driver to check the rear seat area. It could also be a good reminder to check for valuables or electronic devices left in plain sight after a shopping or road trip.

More upgrades

Also new for 2020, Ascent Premium trim and above will offer one-touch interior illumination on/off controls. A power rear gate lock option will also be available for the 2020 SUV.

The second-year Ascent is coming with a few upgrades and a small bump in price for the upper trim levels. The 2020 Subaru Ascent 3-Row Family hauler arrives at dealer showrooms this summer.

Love this column. VERY glad that I didn't buy a first year Ascent. I feel sacrilegious even saying that...having been the GM of s Northeast Subaru dealer in a previous live before moving to Florida. Subarus.....WERE BULLETPROOF in those days. Owners would wait for 500,000 miles on the odometer....to trade their cars in! Doesn't sound like the Ascent. It's a shame. My question: Do you think that they have a TRUE fix for the CVT issues? Will the 2020 have that fix in place? How about the other quality control issues? Could they possibly have those all resolved.....by next month or July ? An extended warranty does me no good. I need RELIABILITY. Thanks

I have heard mostly excellent things about the ascent and am considering a 2020 ascent among the 3 options I am looking at to replace a forester
