The new 2018 Subaru Impreza is ready to launch in the US. Here’s how the new model will light it up in the rain.

The rest of the globe is just now getting the new-generation 2017 Subaru Impreza, but the US is already launching the 2018 Impreza compact. Impreza sedan and 5-Door are now built in Lafayette, Indiana, and Americans are the first ones to get the new model. For 2018, the compact gets one new feature that will keep you safer when it starts to rain.

Impreza received a total remodel from the ground up last year, so the 2018 variant doesn’t need much in the way of new features. Subaru of America announced pricing, and because the brand is big on safety, they added another new safety feature on Impreza and consumers will experience it when it arrives in showrooms this fall.

The 2018 Subaru Impreza sedan and 5-Door variants will now come with a new automatic headlight activation, when the windshield wipers are turned on. It will come standard on Premium, Sport and Limited trims.

When it starts to rain and you turn on the wipers, a sensor automatically switches on the headlights for better visibility in the rain or snow. Oncoming cars will also see the new compact car better. We aren’t sure how it works when the driver turns on the wipers for a quick one-time swipe, but it’s likely the lights will stay on.

Other safety features on the 2018 Impreza compact include additional driver-assist technologies. Reverse Automatic Braking can apply the vehicle’s brakes if an obstacle is detected while reversing. It’s standard on the Limited trim equipped with EyeSight. A rearview camera with steering lines display is standard on all models.

The optional EyeSight system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Lane Departure and Sway Warning. Blind Spot Detection with Lane Keep Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Steering Responsive Headlights, and High Beam Assist are also available. All 2018 Impreza models include front seat side impact airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.

Subaru is all about safety and they add another new feature for compact buyers. For 2018, the Subaru Impreza sedan and 5-Door hatch now comes with automatic headlight activation to light things up on a rainy day. U.S. buyers will get to experience it this fall.

Lights on when the wipers are on? Amazing!
My 2012 Charger has this feature.
An excellent idea that probably costs 25 cents to implement.
