Restyled 2015 Toyota Camry beats Accord and Fusion in first month of sales

The new 2015 Camry increased its sales by 14% in October. We’ll consider the new styling a success.

October was the first month of sales for the new generation 2015 Toyota Camry and sales were up 14% over October of last year. Sales were also up sharply over September, which was the one month of transition for Toyota while it reduced its 2014 model year inventory to make room for the new design.

Camry vs. Accord and Fusion
The new 2015 Camry also outsold the Accord in October. Camry sold a total of 33,164 units. That does include the mixture of some outgoing 2014s and also the new style as the two were both on dealer lots during the month. The 2015 Accord sold 27,128 units. Therefore, the old argument that Toyota only sells more Camrys due to fleet sales is again unlikely as it outsold Accord by over 20%. Ford’s Fusion sold 22,846 units in October.

2015 Camry New Styling, New Trims
The new 2015 Camry changed externally to the corporate look already proven successful on Avalon and Corolla. The grill is the area where the new look is most obvious, but, in fact, every panel on the car is new except the roof. Toyota also wisely added a new top trim. The XSE trim now combines the sporty looks of the SE with the luxury goodies previously found only on XLE.

Camry Drivetrains Unchanged (Good)
The Camry carried forward its popular 4-cylinder engine, powerful 268 hp V6 engine, and the almost undetectable hybrid drivetrain. We drove the V6 XLE and Camry SE hybrid recently and found that Toyota now has Camry offerings that not only rival the other cars in its class, but which will be able to reach up and tempt customers considering an Acura or Audi.
