2016 Honda Civic Coupe to debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

What will the production 2016 Civic Coupe look like, how much will it cost and when will it come to market?

No surprise here, According to our Honda insider, the 2016 production Civic Coupe will be revealed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. As far as the release of the performance Si, Honda’s not saying.

While not the top selling variant in the Civic lineup, the Coupe plays a pivotal role in the performance side of Civic, and frankly looks very cool. When Civic Coupe comes to market in early December 2015, the industry will take notice, so will the Tuners. Available in two engine and two transmission variants, the turbocharged variant will be up-tuned to feed the Civic Si performance frenzy.

1.5 Liter turbocharged Earth Dreams ™ engine, close ratio 6 speed transmission

Although constructed on the same World Compact Platform as the sedan and near future built in England Civic 5 door Hatchback, we anticipate 2016 Civic Coupe to be 2 to 3 inches shorter than Civic Sedan, with a slightly more aggressive body styling, nose design and grill than the newly released 10th generation Civic Sedan.

As with the Civic Sedan, 2016 Coupe will come in several trim variants with the basic Civic LX earmarked for the 2.0 liter normally aspirated 4 cylinder gasoline engine and close ratio 6 speed manual transmission, and the high output 1.5 Liter direct injected engine and CVT transmission dedicated to the Civic EX-L and Touring models.

We experienced both engine and transmission offerings in L.A. and walked away impressed. You may read our latest review of the 2016 Honda Civic here for first drive impressions, engine and transmission comparisons here.

If so, when revealed to the market at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, there should be quite a buzz in the automotive press. From our seat, no other manufacturer competing in the economy-compact segment can touch 2016 Civic for overall drive and ride performance, standard features, and drop dead good looks.

Note: 2016 Honda Civic has made the final cut list for 2015 “Compact Car of the Year,” in a very competitive segment.

As to the release date for 2016 Civic Si Coupe and Sedan, although yet to be announced by Honda, we look to the Los Angeles Auto Show as a logical point of launch for Civic Si, and will be reporting from the press review of the Los Angeles November 17 and 18, 2015.

My sources tell me that the base model 2016 Civic Coupe will come to market with a suggested MSRP of $18,440 + applicable fees and taxes. Fully loaded turbocharged model? Should know a week before the Los Angeles Auto Show.
