How To Drastically Extend Cybertruck's Range With an Easy Trick

A Tesla manager confirmed that the Cybertruck will have a relatively small 123KWh battery pack. We’ve also seen a Cybertruck showing a 267-mile range at full charge. However, what if there was a simple trick to drastically extend the Cybertruck’s range?

So far we’ve learned a lot about the Cybertruck’s specs and details. We know that the truck will feature 4-wheel steering, a secondary 8-inch screen for rear passengers, a 48-volt low-voltage architecture, and an 800-volt high-voltage architecture.

We know that the truck is bulletproof to a Tommy gun and impenetrable even when shot by a hunting bow and arrow from close range, we know the Cybertruck has shatter-resistant glass and air suspension with industry-leading 14 inches of travel.

We even know that the Cybertruck will launch with a “Beast Mode” that can do 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds. We’ve even seen Tesla shooting a new promotional video pitting the Cybertruck against a Porsche 911.

All the information we’ve about the truck so far suggests the Cybertruck will most likely be Tesla’s best product to date.

Having said that, there is one area that the truck might not be as good as previously thought and that is the range. We’ve seen a Cybertruck showing a 267-mile range on a full charge

We’ve also gotten confirmation from a Tesla manager that the Cybertruck’s battery pack size is 123KWh which is smaller than its all-electric pickup competition.

However, what about if you are able to drastically extend the Cybertruck’s range with a relatively easy trick? Last week, a picture of a Cybertruck was shared online showing someone trying to put gas into the truck’s charge port.

Since all Cybertrucks in existence are being driven by Tesla employees, we hope the picture was taken in the spirit of fun. However, it also raises an important question; what if Tesla offered an extended-range Cybertruck?

The Cybertruck picture at the gas station naturally leads to the consideration of an onboard gas generator that can recharge the batteries on longer journeys. However, given the fact that we’re talking about Tesla, it’s extremely unlikely Elon Musk would ever sell a vehicle that uses gas.

So what are the other options? What if Tesla added an optional removable battery pack to go along with your Cybertruck?

Unlike Tesla’s other vehicles, the Cybertruck has a bed which is a flat accessible sturdy area that is conducive to easily loading and unloading heavy objects. This means, that with minimal engineering, Tesla can offer a range extender battery pack for the truck.

The obvious advantage of offering a range extender battery pack for the Cybertruck as opposed to giving the truck a long range in the first place is that most of the time people are not driving hundreds of miles in a day.

As a result, giving the Cybertruck an enormous battery pack will be a waste for most trips. However, if Tesla decided to give an optional range extender pack then, the truck would be capable of long-range distance driving. Whenever the trip is short the vehicle can optimize for efficiency.

Given Tesla’s simplicity ethos, it’s highly unlikely that the EV maker will offer such an option however, given the fact that the Cybertruck’s bed is easily accessible there is a chance a third party can offer this option.

At this point, we still don’t have final confirmation about the Cybertruck’s range and what options if any, Tesla is considering to be able to extend how far the truck can travel on a single charge. However, we’ll be sure to keep you posted when we learn more about Tesla’s plans.
