Which Would You Pick? The New Subaru STe 2 Dr Hatch Or 4 Dr Sedan

Performance enthusiasts want the Subaru WRX STI to return, but it's never coming back, at least not in its current form. A new Subaru STe is coming, and here are two renderings of what the new electric performance model could look like.

At Torque News, we have reported that a new Subaru all-electric STe (Subaru Tecnica electric) is coming sooner than expected. A recent report from Motor Trend says Subaru Corporation will launch the new STe electric performance car in three years with an on-sale date in late 2026 as a 2027 model year.

Motor Trend says because of new production costs and that the new Subaru STe performance car will be the flagship of Subaru Tecnica International's performance division, a $55,000 starting price for a new electrified version is reasonable to expect.

The MSRP of the last STI was a little over $38,000, including destination and delivery, so the new STe will be pricey.

Subaru is ramping up its electrification plans, and the STe is an essential model for the Subaru of America. One of Subaru's core values has always been its performance car division, and that won't change with its new EV plans.

Check out the STI that never was from a rendering from Arnold Verghese at arnold_design, an automotive design artist. Let us know which new Subaru STe you would pick from the renderings below.

Arnold says, "I would love to get my hands on the new WRX to build this. Including the drivetrain and suspension. But the WRX chassis and engine are already a robust starting point."

"The front and rear wings are like the STi concept. But I brought out the wheel fenders a bit to fit 295/30 19s under there. It also acts as an aero guide over the wheels."

The rear of the new performance car is where "things could get so much better." Says Verghese.

"The rear bumper is kept stock, but the rear diffuser is completely redesigned, making it much more rounded. And the wing is a bit wider than the current STi due to the new WRX being a bit wider."

"You can also see the fenders being pushed out to fit the 295/30-19 Cup 2, a real Cup 2 size. Also, the same tire diameter as the S209, which is 660mm. The rims are BBS RI-D which also come in 19 inches and 114.3 bolt pattern, but I'm not sure of the offset.”

2027 Subaru STe 2 door performance car

Verghese says, "This captures the STI spirit as a road car. Here is the WRX STI 2 door, which would be the "Type-R" from the GC8 era, not the 22B. The car Bunta drives are often confused with the 22B when it is the regular narrow body STi Type-R."

"Regarding what I changed, it only moves the b pillar further back without changing the shape, wheelbase, or the roofline. Proportion-wise, it does give off the narrow body coupe GC8 vibes.

A new Subaru STe is coming, and the new electric performance model could look similar to the renderings above. Which model would you pick? The New Subaru STe 2 Dr hatch Or 4 Dr Sedan?
