More information has been released about the upcoming 2020 Camry AWD. I will answer your questions and share what I know.

Looking at trends in the automotive industry can show you more than a few important details. For example, popularity of SUVs is increasing year after year. Truck sales are very strong right now. Also, because of this, there is a tendency among potential buyers to shy away from sedans in favor of these trucks and SUVs.

One reason for this is the all-wheel drive capabilities found in many SUVs, including the insanely popular 2020 RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 gasoline models.

Now, the best-selling midsize sedan in America is about to get these same all-wheel drive offerings in the form of the 2020 Toyota Camry AWD.

Coming soon to a dealership near you.

With that being said, you have asked many great questions on my “Toyotajeff in Raleigh” YouTube channel and through our Torque News Toyota page. I will do my best to answer what I know. I hope you find this helpful.

When will Camry AWD be available?

We will first see Camry AWD released as a 2020 model year. They should be available at dealerships in early spring, according to Toyota. My guess is we can look forward to seeing them in mid-to-late March. I will let you know if this timetable changes.

What trim levels will have Camry AWD?

Camry AWD will be offered in several trim levels we are currently very familiar with. Look for them in LE, XLE, SE and XSE. On a similar note, the Avalon AWD will come in XLE and Limited grades.

Tell us about Camry AWD gas mileage

Currently the posted MPG for a 2020 Camry LE and SE FWD is 28 city / 39 highway / 32 combined. The expectation for incoming 2020 Camry AWD sedans is 25 city / 34 highway / 29 combined.

The 2020 Camry AWD XLE and XSE will have MPG rated at 25 city / 34 highway / 28 combined. Front-wheel drive XLE and XSE give drivers 27 city / 38 highway / 31 combined.

How does Camry AWD work?

Similar to the popular 2019 and 2020 RAV4 all-wheel drive system, 2020 Camry AWD will feature a dynamic torque control AWD system. Once slippage is detected the system can send up to 50 percent of the Camry’s engine torque to the rear wheels to provide optimal grip and traction.

When there is no wheel slippage, Camry AWD will operate without the use of all-wheel drive to optimize fuel economy. It can re-engage instantly once slippage is detected again.

What is Camry AWD horsepower?

Look for a 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission with 2020 Toyota Camry AWD. Camry XSE AWD will provide drivers with 205 horsepower, while all other trim levels have 202 horsepower.

Where will Camry AWD be produced?

Both the Camry AWD and Avalon AWD will be built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, Kentucky. I have taken a tour of this plant and it is frankly amazing. In fact, I encourage anyone who is interested in Toyota and looking for a fun place to visit to schedule a tour of this city (whoops I mean this facility – yes it is so big I would consider it a town or city).

Time for your thoughts on 2020 Camry AWD

What part of the country do you live in, and would you consider a Camry AWD based on where you live? What do you think of the specs so far?

Thanks for reading. See you next story when I talk about the frenzied hype for 2021 RAV4 Prime.
