A new 2022 Tundra hybrid trim level has been revealed. We answer your biggest questions.

I am a huge Star Wars fan. I remember when Obi-Wan tried to tell Yoda that Luke was their last hope. Yoda reminded him simply, “No, there is another.”

Let me draw a parallel to Toyota Tundra here.

Just when you think we have already been shown all the 2022 Tundra trim levels, Toyota announced this morning their newest full-size truck entry.

Capstone.

2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone

First off, you will see the word “Capstone” used a couple different ways. It is capitalized if in written form, but all-caps as “CAPSTONE” if it appears on the Tundra itself.

Capstone is often defined as “a crowning achievement,” and Toyota Tundra Capstone will be viewed in this way as well.

The Tundra Capstone grade will be considered the upper level Tundra in both luxury and prestige. This grade will come with many of the same features as Tundra Platinum and 1794 Edition but with even more bells and whistles.

2022 Tundra Capstone Configuration

This latest Tundra trim level will be offered with just the i-FORCE MAX, or Tundra hybrid, power plant. Look for 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. torque.

Only one body configuration is available with Toyota Tundra Capstone – CrewMax with the 5.5-foot bed.

Tundra Capstone features

To me, the main cornerstone pieces are the black-and-white semi-aniline leather seats – perforated and both heated and ventilated. Very unique. Very luxury. Very Capstone.

Look for Dark American Walnut accents along the center console and passenger-size dash areas.

Tundra Capstone features a gigantic 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This new Toyota Audio Multimedia system utilizes faster processing speeds, Intelligent Assistant with advanced and conversational voice recognition, and Drive Connect cloud-based navigation.

Other standard interior highlights are 12-speaker JBL sound system, panoramic roof and 10-inch color head-up display.

Ambient lighting will add a cool interior vibe as well. Acoustic glass found on the front doors keeps the cabin potentially quieter than any other 2022 Tundra trim level.

More 2022 Toyota Tundra Features

Exterior features found standard on 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone are plentiful and unique to the 2022 Tundra lineup.

Shiny 22-inch chrome rims give Tundra Capstone the largest wheels of all the Tundra trim levels.

Automatic running boards and an automatic bed step assist passengers in getting into and out of the Tundra.

Chrome is really the identifying accent here and can be found in many places – the front grille, side mirror caps, chrome trim piece accents, and chrome “Tundra” tailgate inserts.

All 2022 Tundra trucks, including Capstone, come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. Intersection support and evasive lane steering have been added to the previous Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.

2022 Tundra Towing Capacity

With 2022 Tundra Capstone, look for a maximum towing capacity of 10,340 pounds. Maximum payload is 1,485 pounds.

Towing Technology Package is standard on Tundra Capstone. This includes Trailer Back Guidance and Straight Path Assist, along with multiple camera views to see all around your truck (including the trailer hookup view).

2022 Tundra Capstone Colors

Supersonic Red, Midnight Black Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, Blueprint, Celestial Silver Metallic and Magnetic Gray Metallic will all be choices for consumers when Tundra Capstone is available.

2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Release Date

Although exact dates were not mentioned, expect 2022 Tundra hybrid trim levels to reach retail points sometime in the spring. I would not be surprised to see the first Tundra i-FORCE MAX hybrid trucks begin arriving in March and into April and beyond.

Time for your Toyota Tundra Comments

I started out with a Camry but after my wife’s hip surgery we traded for a Rav-4, thought a bout a Siburu but traded for another Rav-4. My son bought a Rav-4 hybrid but has to pay a large fee each year for driving a hybrid. I am against paying a fee for driving a car that gets better gas mileage. What about you ?
