I assumed 2021 RAV4 Hybrid would be the best-selling Toyota Hybrid this year. So far, I was wrong. Guess who is leading the pack.

This has been a crazy first half of 2021 in the automotive industry. In an anxiety-producing six months filled with COVID-related delays and computer chip (and vehicle) shortages, a silver lining has been revealed.
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), for example, is seeing record sales in a somewhat shocking turn of events.
2021 Toyota First Half Sales
Sales volume results for both the month of June and first half of 2021 were just announced by Toyota. TMNA revealed a first-half 2021 increase of 44.5 percent in total sales versus first half of 2020. In total, 1,291,879 vehicles have been sold so far in 2021.
This is remarkable considering the incredible uphill battle nearly all auto manufacturers have been facing lately.
I would like to focus on Toyota alternative powered vehicles (APVs), because these make up nearly 25 percent of total sales.
An alternative powered vehicle could include hybrids, battery electric vehicles (but not in this specific case), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Most people already know just how popular a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has been for the last few years. RAV4 Hybrid has been leading the pack in Toyota hybrid sales and is accustomed to being looked at as Toyota top dog.
And 2021 RAV4 Hybrid is currently performing very well to-date. June sales figures showed 7,054 RAV4 Hybrid SUVs went home with new owners. First half sales are currently at 52,446 RAV4 Hybrids.
Great job, 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. You can breathe a small sigh of relief.
But wait.
These latest sales reports show there is a new Toyota hybrid sheriff in town. At least for now.
2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid
Yes, that is right. Toyota Sienna, now with an all-hybrid powerplant, outsold RAV4 Hybrid for both June and the first half of 2021.
Toyota sold 8,674 of the popular 2021 Sienna minivans in June and 56,804 for 2021 calendar year to-date.
I am not all that surprised. This past week I have been evaluating a 2021 Sienna XSE and I really enjoyed nearly everything about it.

You may want to visit your local Toyota dealership and test one for yourself. Sienna Hybrid rides smooth and relatively quiet, even at highway speeds. Ride comfort is a plus for passengers in all three rows.
Additionally, 2021 Toyota Sienna is rated at 36mpg combined for front-wheel drive and 35mpg combined for all-wheel drive.
Toyota Sienna is worth a look for sure.
Toyota Hybrid Top 10 list
Believe it or not, there were other Toyota hybrids being sold in addition to RAV4 and Sienna. Here are the top 10 best-selling hybrids for the first six months of 2021:
1) Sienna Hybrid: 56,804
2) RAV4 Hybrid: 52,446
3) Venza Hybrid: 35,834
4) Highlander Hybrid: 34,528
5) Camry Hybrid: 22,107
6) Prius Hybrid: 19,901
7) Prius Prime: 18,862
8) Corolla Hybrid: 16,675
9) RAV4 Prime: 9,667
10) Avalon Hybrid: 4,702
Time for your Toyota comments
So, it appears Toyota Sienna is outselling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. These are both great options, though, depending on your family dynamic and how you plan to use your vehicles. I would be curious to know which one you would choose if the choice were handed to you.

Were there any surprises on this list for you? For me, I notice that Prius, the first and top Toyota hybrid of all time, showed up as the sixth best-performing hybrid on the list.

I find this article interesting....in Canada the top selling Toyota is still the Rav hybrid, made here in Cambridge and Woodstock Ontario. It is a great vehicle. Those who have one love them. I would not drive a Venza.
Consider adding the Prime
Consider adding the Prime figures to their respective totals, as Primes are also hybrids. In that case, RAV4 is still #1, and Prius is #4.

I am not surprised considering that there are so many breeders in this earth that poop out kids like candy. No wonder this earth is so overly populated!
