February sales results show that Volkswagen seems to have shaken the cloud that was provided by its Dieselgate scandal. In all key metrics, VW sales in February were up.

Volkswagen’s streak of success continued in February when the automaker announced total sales of 25,145 vehicles. It represents a 12.7 percent increase over February 2016.

For the months of January and February, Volkswagen reported 48,655 deliveries. It accounts for a 14.75 percent increase in year-over-year sales.

Volkswagen’s Golf family delivered a total of 5,842 units, an increase of 60.3 percent. Every model in the Golf family saw an increase, including the e-Golf, Golf R and Golf SportWagen, each of which showed their best February delivery records in their histories.

Among other sales developments:

  • Tiguan sales were up 5.5 percent versus February 2016. It marked the best February for the vehicle.
  • Golf SportWagen sales – including the all-new Alltrack – were 2,094 units. This figure represents a massive increase of 229.8 percent versus February 2016
  • Sales of Chattanooga-built Passat totaled 6,114 units, an increase of 39.6 percent over February 2016.

With this sales report, it is now apparent that Volkswagen has worked through the worst of the Dieselgate scandal and is now firmly on track to putting its diesel emissions scandal well behind it, at least on a sales basis. Now, Volkswagen’s primary emphasis has to be on cleaning up the remaining legal cases that still face the automaker.
