Subaru unveils the future in the VIZIV Concept revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show. What will we see in the new-generation Forester?

The Subaru VIZIV Concept has been unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show and it’s not the new Forester. The VIZIV (“Vision for Innovation”) is just that, it’s a concept vehicle pointing to future technologies that are coming from Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) maker of Subaru automobiles. What are some things a future Forester SUV will get from VIZIV?

New safety technology

The VIZIV reveals 3 new technologies that will likely show up on a future Subaru Forester multi-purpose vehicle. Subaru wants to be the leader in safety and they are demonstrating that commitment at the Tokyo Motor Show this week. VIZIV brings new safety technology that includes automatic driving capability and other advanced safety technology resulting from the ongoing evolution of Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system. Inside, a camera for monitoring the driver is located on the instrument panel glare shield.

Hybrid power

The VIZIV’s powerplant combines a down-sized turbocharged engine, probably a 1.6-liter turbo boxer engine, with a hybrid system. Subaru is in the process of overhauling its powertrain technology and will also add cylinder deactivation and lean combustion cycles by 2020, to meet more stringent emissions standards. Subaru said they want engines “with thermal efficiency rates above 40 percent, which would top that of the engine in the Toyota Prius hybrid.”

Multi-function design

Subaru’s core value is what they call “Subaru and Active Life” that features their All-Wheel Drive platform and multi-function design for active lifestyles. Subaru reveals in the ZIZIV Concept vehicle how this will continue in their next-generation Forester, Outback and Crosstrek vehicles. A future Forester could come with new minivan-style sliding doors that make for easier access to the rear seats and cargo area. What we do know is that Subaru will build a new-generation Forester that will get new safety technology, will likely have hybrid power and will be even more functional for consumers with active lifestyles.

Please no sliding doors because that's for vehicles with longer length. Otherwise, the sliding doors would.stick out at the rear.
