Subaru of America announced two new recalls involving the Subaru Forester, Crosstrek, and Impreza. See what two issues are affecting the models.

Subaru announced two separate recalls affecting the 2019 Subaru Forester, 2017-2019 Impreza, and 2018-2019 Crosstrek models. Subaru says they are encouraging owners of affected vehicles to contact an authorized Subaru retailer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Subaru of America.

The first recall affects 466,205 vehicles comprising 2017-2019 Impreza and 2018-2019 Crosstrek models. Subaru says they need to check and update the engine control module (ECM) programming and replace all ignition coils. The ignition coils could, over time, degrade and cause starting or stalling issues.

Subaru of America and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also recently recalled the next-generation 2017-2019 Crosstrek and Impreza vehicles for an electrical system issue. You can read the full report here.

The Camden N.J automaker says incident rates from the latest recall are extremely low, but they are conducting the recall “out of an abundance of caution.” Subaru says no accidents or injuries have been reported due to this issue.

The second recall affects 405,000 vehicles comprising 2019 Forester and 2019 Crosstrek models. Subaru needs to examine and re-torque bolts on the rear stabilizer bracket, which could come loose over time.

Subaru says the loose bracket could then interact with other components causing damage. This recall involves low incident rates, and the automaker says there have been no accidents or injuries reported due to this issue.

What should owners do?

Subaru of America will notify 2017-2019 Impreza and 2018-2019 Crosstrek owners, and dealers will check and update the engine control module (ECM) programming and replace all ignition coils if necessary free of charge.

Subaru of America will notify 2019 Subaru Forester and 2019 Crosstrek owners and examine and re-torque bolts on the rear stabilizer bracket if necessary.

The two recalls are expected to begin within 60 days. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Both recalls will be free of charge to customers. You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration here.

The ignition coil and programming recall has been out for almost a year. That's not new.

I have a 2019 Forester. I didn't know anything about ignition coil and programmng recall and was at my dealer recently for service. They said nothing about it eventhough I asked if there were any recalls. How concerned should I be?

I would ask your dealer about that. The recall doesn't apply to all vehicles, just a certain production range. If it applies to yours the dealer will be able to look it up, and you should receive something in the mail from Subaru.

We have a 2017 Forester, so even though our Forester isn't affected by this recall, I would be concerned if I were in your position. I would consider their lack of knowledge about the recall, as at least disappointing, at worst, incompetent.

Exactly. Their very own article they linked to was published in October of 2019. No idea why they're putting this out as though it's new. Maybe looking for some ad revenue from increased page views?

We bought a new '19 Crosstrek as soon as they came out, replacing our 2009 Forester..they have both been great vehicles but, of course, the Crosstrek can outrun just about anything on the road..we live right off I-90 and when merging with traffic, my Crosstrek can really go! This is my 4th Subaru and I won't have another vehicle..I'm 74, so my Crosstrek could be my last car, I suppose..
