Subaru Picks Up 3 New Family Car Awards - Rated The Best In 5 Key Areas

What are the best new family cars and SUVs? A new report from iSeeCars ranks the 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV, the 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV, and the 2022 Subaru Legacy sedan the best in their vehicle category. Scores are based on five key areas; long-term reliability, value retention, safety scores, cargo space, and fuel efficiency.

The 2022 Subaru Outback is ranked the best in the Small SUV (2-Row SUV category) by iSeeCars scoring. They rank new SUVs on a scale of 1-10, and the Outback gets the highest quality score of nine points for the best family SUV in its category.

iSeeCars ranks the 2022 Subaru Forester highest among the best compact SUVs. The Forester gets a quality score of 8.7 points and ties with the Honda CR-V (8.7). The Toyota RAV4 scores (8.6), Kia Sportage (8.4), Hyundai Tucson (8.3), and Ford Escape (8.2).

The Subaru Outback scores 8.0 in reliability, 8.1 in value retention, and 10.0 in safety. The Subaru Forester scores 7.9 in reliability, 8.1 in value retention, and 10.0 in safety.

The 2022 Subaru Legacy scores third highest in the midsize car category. The Legacy gets a quality score of 8.6 points, reliability of 8.1, retained value of 7.8, and safety score is 10.0.

The 2022 Subaru Outback and Forester score highest in Kelly Blue Book’s 2022 Best Resale Value Awards. The 2022 Subaru Forester wins the Compact SUV category, and the 2022 Subaru Outback takes home the best Midsize SUV 2-row award.

The highest safety scores

The 2022 Subaru Outback, 2022 Forester, and 2022 Legacy score the highest safety ratings over the last six years from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). All three models earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS and five stars from the NHTSA.

2022 Subaru Outback fuel mileage

The EPA fuel mileage rating of the 2022 Outback XT 2.4-liter turbo is 23/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg. The estimated fuel economy of the standard 2.5-liter engine is 26/33 mpg city/highway and 29 combined mpg.

The EPA says the new 2022 Outback Wilderness gets an estimated 22/26 city/highway mpg and 24 combined mpg. The 2021 Outback XT with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine gets an EPA estimated 23/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg.

2022 Subaru Forester fuel mileage

The 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV comes with standard all-wheel drive and gets an EPA estimated 29 combined mpg and 26/33 city/highway mpg. The Forester comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine.

2022 Subaru Legacy fuel mileage

The EPA says the 2022 Legacy XT returns EPA mileage figures estimated at 24 mpg city/32 mpg highway. The standard naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-4 engine gets an EPA estimated 27/35 mpg city/highway fuel economy.

The 2022 Subaru Outback, 2022 Subaru Forester, and 2022 Subaru Legacy are top picks for families looking for a 2-Row SUV, compact SUV, and midsize sedan, according to iSeeCars. They get high scores for long-term reliability, value retention, safety scores, cargo space, and fuel efficiency.
