The Subaru Outback Can’t Keep Pace Before It Gets A Remodel

The 2024 Subaru Outback can't keep pace with Forester and Crosstrek. Check out the midsize SUV's performance in February. And see what's next for the popular Outback.

The 2024 Subaru Outback is due for a remodel, and customers may be waiting for the new model launch. I cover the model every month, and Subaru of America reports the 2024 Outback increased in sales by 14.3 percent last month compared with February 2023.

Despite the increase, the Outback tries to catch up with the hot Forester compact SUV and Crosstrek subcompact SUV. The Forester took the top spot, and Crosstrek is number two for the month.

The Outback midsize SUV is the third best-selling model in SOA's lineup, with 10,412 models delivered to customers last month compared with 9,108 in February 2023. The Outback is up 11.2 percent in the first two months of 2024.

Here are the numbers for February and how the Outback compares with Subaru's lineup.

  1. Subaru Forester - 14,883 (+48.4%)
  2. Subaru Crosstrek - 11,325 (-15.3%)
  3. Subaru Outback - 10,412 (+14.3%)
  4. Subaru Ascent - 3,791 (-13.9 %)
  5. Subaru Impreza - 2,343 (-9.6%)
  6. Subaru WRX -1,395 (-46.3%)
  7. Subaru Legacy -1,248 (-18.2%)
  8. Subaru Solterra - 322 (-27.2%)
  9. Subaru BRZ - 243 (-33.9%)

As you can see, the 2024 Outback and Forester are the only models showing positive sales performance in the first two months.

SOA delivered 21,712 Outback models to customers in the first two months, 27,501 Foresters were sold, and 23,878 Crosstrek models sold in 2024.

What's next for the 2025 Subaru Outback?

The Outback is scheduled for a complete remodel for the 2025 model year. Significant upgrades are coming, and the next-generation Outback will be Subaru of America's most significant new model launch this year.

Subaru of America will announce the remodeled 2025 Subaru Outback next, which could be coming soon. It's the most anticipated redesign of the year. The Outback is the Camden, N.J. automaker's best-selling model, and they want to get it right.

The next-generation 2025 Outback will get significant upgrades from the 2024 model year. Here is what I know so far. I have reported earlier that the all-new Outback for the 2025 model year will come with new exterior styling, interior, infotainment, and upgraded safety features. But there's more.

MY TAKE

The newly redesigned Outback will likely get hybrid power.

An Outback Hybrid is speculation on my part, as Subaru is always tight-lipped about future product plans, and the automaker has made no announcements about the 2025 Outback.

Subaru Corporation is ramping up new hybrid models, like the Forester Hybrid that Subaru has confirmed. The Outback will get new hybrid technology, but the question is when.

Should customers wait?

The 2024 Subaru Outback is an excellent midsize SUV. Customers who wait will find the Outback gets significant technology and safety upgrades. It will be worth the wait, in my opinion.

This is the latest information regarding the new Subaru Outback. I'll keep you updated with any new information.

I own a 2022 Outback and have been overall satisfied. Was considering a 24 model but have decided to wait for the 2025 model release. Hopefully I won't have to wait much longer.

Started with a 2019 outback basic for my hiker wife. Traded up like-for-like after a year in '20, then a wilderness in '22. Each time the trade in value was more than what I paid. No complaints At All! We've been to over 50 trail-heads/yr where in some cases we were the only ones there because of the rugged roads. 30k miles in 18 mo. Wife's hiking group has over 500 members with about 30 active members...perfect! Not sure we need more features or upgrades since this subI has everything we need.

I’ve had a great time watching YouTube vids regarding Subaru’s new direction with new Staff - they supposedly are listening to more customer requests- with that my father was an airframe engineer for a company called Grumman Aerospace - though both are gone now, they listened to the pilots requests aka their customers and built phenomenal aircraft because of that - I bought a 23 Onyx Outback Xt and absolutely love it - I’ll happily trade it back to Riverhead Subaru where I purchased mine for a next gen Hybrid Outback remodel with between 300 to 350 hp using that hybrid electric would be awesome - Go Subie…
